    Does Irish law recognise Sologamy?

If i was to marry myself legally in another country would it be valid in ireland?

If so would i be enititled to the benifits of a married couple i.e. tax credits, inheritance etc?

    Genuine question

The constitution defines marriage as being between two people, so sologamy and polygamy seem not to be an option. The legal person is also pretty well defined, so there’s no real option of a Victor/Victoria situation.

    No it doesnt.

It's also very stupid and ridiculous.

Even if it was constitutionally possible; I don't see any benefits. The tax benefits require a second actual person to have tax credits; you can't inherit stuff from yourself and the tax planning that could be done before someones death requires the second actual person with their thresholds too.

Next somebody will be asking about a Posthumous marriage :)

On another note, I really hope Sologamy divorces are amicable, just imagine the tension with oneself if not :)

I wonder is there even another jurisdiction which recognises them legally?

Be interesting if there was a dissociative identity disorder involved...

I think the point is moot. There is no other country in which you can do this, SFAIK.

You can already make full use of your own tax credits, and so are better positioned than a married person is with respect to their partner's tax credits. And of course you can give yourself gifts without limit and incur no liablity to CAT.

The real issue is "are you in love with yourself?"
