I've got an original one from the 50s and it's still working. Classy looking piece.

I have the 2017 mechanical reissue in silver, on leather and with a silver mesh. It's a lovely watch but I find it very small.

Thanks so much for posting this. I came across this post randomly just after joining.

I just ordered the silver with black leather strap from timex eu.

I haven't owned a nice watch in a long time, I was always afraid to spend much money on one because I broke/lost so many. At the same time their cheapness probably led to them being prone to being broken or misplaced too.

I always thought the nicest type of watch to have would be a classic, understated one that is really simple and durable but also doesn't look cheap, and also is not oversized and doesn't have extra dials or knobs. But it seemed like they don't they don't really make them like that now, and I figured if I was to buy a vintage one you would pay an arm and a leg for one in good condition.

So this watch looks perfect for me. I need to have a leather strap as my skin is sensitive and the size should be ideal as I don't have large wrists, about 7 in.

Like I said I'm no aficionado and 200.00 is a lot of money for me, also I wasn't sure about the hand winding as i have never done it, so after looking more at the timex website i nearly went for something like the cheaper waterbury classic quartz movement because they were also pretty similar to what I wanted, but none of the other watches had the brushed silvertone sunburst type dial, which in looking at the pics people have uploaded in the reviews, is what really sets the watch off and gives it that authentic 'grandfather' type feel.

They are meant to be famous for their durability also (the originals, anyway) which is important to me as well as I would like it to last. And I think it will be fun to wind it up actually.

Also they have a promo where if you sign up to their email newsletter you got 15% off, and shipping was free so I got it for 170.00 euro delivered.

I just started a new job after being unemployed for 2 years and this is my first splurge, I'm really excited to get it now!

I don't think so but leave it with me. I don't think I'd get the value from it I'd want, considering I've worn it around 5 times, and there's a 15% off voucher on their website.

Got the watch a few days ago, delighted with it. Size is perfect, doesn't wear small IMO, and though some don't like the strap I do, it's not the best leather but is comfy and vintage looking.

The movement is totally silent which i like because i don't like hearing a ticking sound when i try to sleep. Though I keep it in the box at night anyway. The box it comes in is cool, too, it is a long rectangular shape for storing it lyig down not wrapped around like most modern ones, and has some text inside about the reissue.

And I love winding it. I cant wear a watch at work because I work with food, so when I set it and wind it before I put it on on my days off, it's a nice little ritual to signify that I'm now on 'my time'.

Could anyone tell me if it matters if I let it 'run out of juice' on my work days that I'm not wearing it, ie: should I still wind it even if I'm not wearing it?

Everyone will say something different about letting the watch run out of power. Personally I don't think it will be an issue. I'm sure there will be some that says it is an issue though.

I've found since that i now prefer to wind it daily, it avoids having to set it, and figure they are probably designed to keep on ticking.

Still get quite a bit of satisfaction from winding it, the fact that it is can keep going without ever needing a battery or anything else but twisting the crown is pretty amazing to me. it's like having a living thing on your wrist that, that you need to interact with every so often so that it doesn't 'die'.

Timex have just released an auto version of the Marlin that is i guess more contemporary, bigger size 40mm, no lizardy texture on the strap, different color dials including black, date box. 250.00

the changes probably tick a lot of boxes for some, i personally don't like them, the domed glass on a bigger face i think might be awkward and i just don't like date boxes they're usually a pain to read and and disrupts the simplicity and symmetry of the dial.
