Very sad news. Only saw him on that BBC documentary a while back, 'The Galaxy Britain Built', and as usual he came across as a gentleman. Always admired the way he stuck to his principles after Empire Strikes Back and walked away from producing ROTJ, as he believed George Lucas was more interested in selling toys than delivering a great story.

The amount of tributes I've read since I heard the news earlier is testament to the man's reputation and character.

By all accounts a nice guy whose place in film history is secure. In addition to SW and American Graffiti, he also produced Return to Oz and Dark Crystal.

He was effectively fired during post-production of TESB for mishandling the budget. George, in characteristic fashion, never told him he was fired. Kurtz just came in one day and there was another producer there.
