I'm moving to the UAE and currently going through the very painful visa process. I need many documents certified/attested/legalised (I barely understand the difference between these). This morning I took my Original Degree certificate and I got it 'Authenticated' by the Department of Trade and Affairs in the Passport office. I then took it to the Arab Irish Chamber of Commerce and they are going to Attest it and send it back to me - all good there.

However now I need to do the same for my Marriage cert. Problem is I got married in Belfast - and they could not do it for me. They pointed me to this link: https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised - which is a very good service that walks you though sending in documents for legalisation. I called them however they said my marriage cert needs to be signed in actual ink. The original one I have had a digital signature but it does have a proper hologram and at the bottom it says "CERTIFIED to be a true copy of an entry in the marriage registration record in my custody". Is that enough or do I need to get this further certified?

After I got this back legalised, I believe I then need to get it attested by the UAE Embassy - in the UK. Is this just a double check? It then goes to the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs I'm told.

Next to get my wife's residency visa, since she is not Irish I then "Need an Affidavit letter from the husband's consulate". Can anyone explain this for me please?

I would really appreciate if anyone can shed some light on what all this means and the process - I'm under time pressure and want to get it done properly!
    Thanks
