Budget is €800. Would like as small and lightweight as possible. Would be used for excel, photos and transferring files to and from phone, camera, external hdd etc. Nothing too heavy. Would prefer an SSD and 8GB Ram.

2 options. both lightweight and 8gb ram, core i5 quad-core and ssd.
pc world a good option these days for value on laptops.

cheaper. small 128 gbssd. 720p instead of 1080p screen
1.46 kg. claimed 11hrs battery life
      500 euro

      2. https://www.currys.ie/ieen/computing/laptops/laptops/asus-zenbook-ux430-14-intel-core-i5-laptop-256-gb-ssd-blue-10176442-pdt.html

bigger 256gb ssd, full hd screen of much better quality overall aside from just the resolution, slick metal build - lovely looking device.
1.25 kg. claimed 9 hrs battery life
      720 euro on offer

the asus for the quality of the whole package is better value.

      review of the asus https://www.laptopmag.com/reviews/laptops/asus-zenbook-ux430

this is almost as good as a dell xps 13 for 400 to 500 euro less at the current offer price. I'd recommended it - not sure what the stock level at that price would be. cheapest I've seen this at before was over 900 euro and that was in Germany (german keyboard layout)

if you have an old laptop under 7 yrs old you could trade it in for 100 off the asus. or 50 off the hp

the only thing about the asus is that I've seen reports of actual battery life of 5hrs but that would in intensive review tests and with the older 7th gen cpus - 8th gen are more efficient. prob would get 6hrs tho at least with battery saver. still it's such a pretty device with top screen, good keyboard, very good trackpad that I'd defo still go for it.

As per your question, your work is normal. So, choose light laptop like the i3 processor. These are not costly and very useful for normal work on a daily basis. I can't post the links here because it looks spammy. So, I would recommend you to choose HP laptop. It's cost hardly €500 max.
