Poor performance on this Thread to be honest :-(

The work forum isn't really in a obvious place IMO.

    Business & Finance/Personal/

I doubt many people wander in looking for jobs.

Yeah i don't think I can change that tho. I think its default.

A software dev in a management or project leader role starting at 30k is probably why there's little interest in this thread.

I expected more people to comment tho even if just to give out about the salary.

Well you could argue that with most AO roles but it is aimed at graduates. I get why there isn't much interest in Dublin where starting salary would be much higher but would have thought limerick would have at least some interested people.

    Why would they comment?

If you're looking to buy a car are you going to comment on car ads that don't interest you and don't reflect the perceived market value? During the trough of the downturn people might have been interested and comment due to fewer jobs being available.

Saw the ad, looked at the money on offer, moved on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

The pension and salary doesn't seem to be competitive in the current market. Especially if you have to start bottom of scale. That later just kills it.

    Well. why did you comment?

If I saw a car I liked but it was way over priced. Yeah I probably would comment :-P

Anyways, thats not really the point, I am sure that at least one person on boards has applied for this job & on other thread people regularly comment on salary, ask questions about the job or even the application process (whether or not they apply for the job afterwards).

Its nothing to me if people are interest in the job or if they chose to apply or not. I was merely commenting on the lack of discussion (which ironical has increased now). However it has been a poor performance in comparison to other public job threads.

I filled in the survey for it but can be under consideration till next Sept long enough wait I reckon they will promote it again when that competition starts up.

in my dept we have had 2 EOs join and leave within 3 months because of the pay. AO doesn’t have that much of a jump I say they might struggle with number for this competition

I did the same and said I would be available for the January start. I've been having trouble finding development jobs despite getting a good 1st as I took a year off after Uni. I turned down €32k from Deloitte thinking it was too low and completely regret it now as it's the best offer I've gotten. I have an offer for €42k starting in March but it would mean working in German and my German is very poor and they did say they sack people who's German isn't good enough so I've 6 months to get that sorted. I'm hoping I get contacted about this before Jan as it might be a good option, try to get into a secure job and get an affordable house and travel later instead of traveling now.

I was looking at the civil service pay scale, how difficult is it to get up to AP with decent motivation over a few years, is it not worth the effort?

From what I've been told from others in general your expected to apply for HEO/AP roles within 5 years. Although its possible, they don't like people staying at AO grade forever, its essential a training grade.

Even HEO is poor for a dev. I wouldn't be interested in staying long term without at least going for AP. Principal is about the first grade that looks about right for an experienced developer. I assume you have to go back to the lowest amount evertime you move up? If you haven't hit Principal by about 10 years in you'd make so much more in the private sector.

You go up a grade to the lower point above your current salary. (So basically yeah)

    What do you mean addresses?

I'm looking to find out where the job actually is.
Anything I've found just says Dublin and Limerick, I can find 10 addresses for Revenue in Dublin and 1 in Limerick but there could be more. Some of the addresses in Dublin are in much more expensive places to live than others. Or if you don't decide to live near could add an hour a day to the commute and cost probably €2k more per year to get to.

Oh. I will ask a friend of mine tomorrow but my best guess would be in Dublin Castle.

Does anyone know if they usually offer roles to all who have made the panel for AO ICT in Revenue ? As in do they usually clear the panel in each campaign ? Any info would be appreciated.

I have an interview on the 29th, anyone else?

A mate had their interview in late January for the 2019 competition and was informed last week that they placed in the top 20 of the panel.

They aren't sure how many positions are going so they aren't sure if they will be placed.

One thing that stuck me as strange is that there doesn't appear to be a follow up technical interview, am I correct in believing this or if they do get called from the panel will there be further interviews?

There was a technical expert at the interview and 20% of the interview time was dedicated to "Specialist knowledge and Expertise". There is no follow up.

He did mention the above to me alright and he scored 80% in that section based on the feedback that they provided, just seems a little strange based on my experience in the private sector.

The last job I went for had an initial phone technical interview followed up by two further technical interviews with practical demonstrations and two non technical interviews, over a four hour period and that would tend to be the norn.

Not knocking the interview process, just thought that there would be a more in-depth follow on interview, perhaps with a practical element.

He's well capable of doing the job, just has to wait and see if he gets called.

There are many legal issues, discrimination casses etc that mean the interview format can't be changed at all. An AO for accounting, HR, tech, or anything else all have to have the same interview.
