    Hi,

My missus is after starting a new job after 3 years out of employment and she got her first payslip today. She is on emergency tax as her gross pay was €385 and her net pay was €300. How do we go about sorting out her tax credits? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

She needs to create an account on the revenue website.
Go into Revenue.ie and on the top right hand corner you will see MyAccount. She needs her PPSN and an email address that she can access.
Follow the instructions to get the password sent in the post.
When the password comes complete the registration process and follow the instructions to register a new job. She will need her employers registered tax number for this.
It might be on the payslips or she might have to ask payroll for it.
When you’ve finished registration revenue will send both your wife and her employer a tax credit certificate and her tax will be sorted out.
    Her employer will refund her.
If you’ve taken all her tax credits while she’s been out of work then you’ll have to sort that out between the two of you and revenue.

    Thanks very much splinter.

Myself and my missus are not married yet but cohabiting with our two children. Am I right in saying that she will be entitled to the two standard tax credits i.e PAYE Tax Credit and Personal Tax Credit. If so what would her estimated net pay be if her gross pay is €385?

On a 'normal cumulative basis' she'd expect to net €357.98 (or if she has a FULL medical card, it would be a few cents higher, €358.32):

She may be put on a 'Week 1 basis'. The only impact this will have is that any refund of emergency tax will have to wait until 2019.

Edit to add to above: if she is only starting the job now and is put on a normal cumulative basis, she's likely to pay no PAYE or PRSI as she will have the benefit of unused thresholds for the first 8 or so months of the year.
The only deduction applying for the remainder of the year would be PRSI of €8.90 as per above, so her net would be €376.10 per week.
