‘Veronica Mars’ Revival Series Confirmed At Hulu; Additional Details Revealed

It’s a done deal. Hulu has given a direct-to-series eight-episode order to a Veronica Mars revival. The series, with Kristen Bell reprising her role as the title character, is slated to premiere in 2019.

Hulu have been ob a bit of a role with there series hopefully with the original cast and crew back Veronica Mars can return with the same charm and wit it had the first time around.

Is this going to continue from the movie or are we finally going to get to see her join the FBI?

Very interested to see how all the socio-economic themes will work given the heavy polarisation of American politics.

They had plans for another movie or 2, as well as the novels, so likely continue on from the movie.
Probably for the best because we don't really need another FBI show.
I did watch the season 4 proof of concept though.

Looks like a full house as Daddy Mars is signed up now.

Enrico Colantoni is set to join Kristen Bell in Hulu’s eight-episode Veronica Mars revival. He will reprise his series regular role from the original of Keith Mars, Veronica’s (Bell) father and head of Mars Investigations.

Some plot details.

In the revival, spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica (Bell) is drawn into an epic mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.

Clifton Collins Jr. & Izabela Vidovic To Recur On Hulu Revival

Collins will play Alonzo, a mid-level hitman for a Mexican cartel. Because of his facility with English, he’s chosen by his boss to travel to Neptune to take out whoever killed his wife’s nephew. The more time Alonzo spends in the U.S. the more doubts creep in about his chosen career field, particularly when he falls hard for a local girl.

Vidovic will portray Matty Ross. When teenaged Matty Ross loses the most important person in the world to her in an act of violence, she isn’t content to wait for justice. She goes after it herself in acts so brazen, they remind Veronica of the girl she used to be.

The plotline sounds eerily similar to one of the novels so I hope they don't retread old ground.

Either way, I'm delighted it's coming back. Wish it was Netflix though.....more eyes would mean a better likelihood of more seasons. I fear it won't get the exposure it needs on Hulu. Far more people have a Netflix account.

A Handmaid's Tale is Hulu and seems to do okay.
Then shows like Castle Rock and Runaways got second seasons. Not sure of ratings.
Will have to see if it's picked up for airing here and who by.

True but it would have been exposed to a bigger audience on netflix. And it being a fairly cheap show to make in comparison to many others......I'm surprised they didn't go for it.

My fear is that fans of the show just pirate it and it tanks on Hulu.

It's possible to be delighted its back while still being disappointed that it probably wont get the audience it needs on Hulu.

I know, but just trying to be optimistic. As you say it should be a cheaper show to produce and that's of huge benefit to it. I mean if it came down to it and something like Runaways and Veronica Mars have the same number of viewers, which is more likely to be renewed? Runaways has a dinosaur, so I'm guessing not too cheap.
And I'm also hoping when negotiating, it was for more than one season.

Still as good as the first time. So easy to watch as well without feeling like I'm forcing myself through them.

And so ends the Veronica Mars rewatch including movie and season 4 pitch.
Watching the movie right after the series is strange. Veronica looks different. Oddly bears a resemblance to pre-crazy Amanda Bynes at times.
Movie tried to be edgier than the series. Not quite as bad as the Dead Like Me movie, but definitely not as loyal to the original series as the Lucifer return.
I think the new episodes will probably be closer to the movie's tone.

And I'm sure I posted it before, but for anyone interested, here's that season 4 pitch from 2007. Was referenced in the movie.

While rewatching it, I was very surprised at how many episodes Mack was actually in.
Looking at imdb she was in 23 episodes out of the 64 episodes and the movie.
I was sure she was in a lot more.

Well I ended up watching the whole over the weekend.

Really enjoyed it and it felt like the Veronica Mars I remember.

I'd happily watch a mini series every couple of years.

I would not be surprised if Hulu renew it for another season.

I enjoyed it though

Logan's death felt cheap and unearned. I'd have no problem with that plot point happening but would have preferred it to have been a significant storyline rather than a coda to set up a different lifestyle for Veronica for potential future series.

Finally got round to watching the new series. VM hasn't been great for a while but still disappointed with the season. It was not terrible but if this is the way they end the series I think that the writer having already messed up the Izombie finale has just lost the plot.
