Oil leak Seat Leon 141

Just had car serviced in main dealer who’s informed me that there’s an oil leak coming from either the camshaft or crankshaft which has contaminated the timing belt. Been told that new seals, timing belt and water pump required. Been quoted over €1000. Is this figure reasonable? Is it a job that could be carried out properly by a local mechanic rather than a main dealer. The car is a Seat Leon fr 2.0 diesel. I’m absolutely green when it comes to motors/mechanics so all replies are greatly appreciated.

Did you ask for goodwill or suggest a contribution towards the costs. A 4 year old car surely shouldn't be leaking oil already.

Yeah asked the dealer that serviced the car and dealer who I purchased the car from day one, no joy on that front.

Your probably looking at 500-600 from a decent independent. Nothing particularly challenging just a bit time also depending on your mileage you may be getting close to been due a timing belt change anyway.
