    Flights booked to Faro, wondering where to go, bit of surfing, bit of chilling, near a nice beach and a nice village. We're renting a car too. Any advice welcome.

    I highly recommend Olhao to the east of Faro. It has a ferry to the barrier islands, fabulous restaurants and still untouched by mass tourism.

    Tavira which is east of Faro is lovely and Cabanas next to it has a beautiful beach and if you keep heading east towards Spain and you get some surf.

    Cheap as chips too east of Faro!

    +1 for Tavira much cheaper that the places west of Faro .
    Nice town with good beaches near by Barril beach and a number of others
    It is 40 minutes from Faro
