Worthwhile getting dental treatment abroad?

It turns out I need root canal treatment in 4 molars.

Just wondering if it's worthwhile going up Northern Ireland or elsewhere abroad to get it done? I think people used do it, but haven't heard about it for a while now. Vague memory of someone going to Hungary for 6-8 weeks...

    Any opinions?

Wherever you decide to have treatment, it is best to see an endodontist (versus a general dentist) for molar root canal treatment. Factor in the cost of 4 crowns also.

High speed dental tourism is never a good idea, you only do it to save money but usually it ends up costing more in the long run. As above who does it will be the overriding factor in the long term success, the better dentists in any country will not be the cheaper ones. Root canals are foundation work, and bad foundations are a total disaster.

    Go up the north

Same treatment as here but way cheaper

    No problem with going back

If its cheap dentistry your after there are loads of low cost places in the south. You dont have to travel to find a dentist that cheap anymore.

“There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price alone are that person’s lawful prey. It’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money — that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot — it can’t be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

    I'm not advocating cheap dentistry

I'm saying you can get the same treatment up north cheaper

How do you know the dentistry is the same? Because its the same items? That like saying that all cars are the same, or all burgers are the same. I know that a root canal specialist in the North charges the same as in the south, I know that there are places in Dublin charging less than in the North for a root canal. There are value decisions to be made everywhere, but the thesis that just because you drive for an hour that you are going to pay a little and get a lot is demonstrably incorrect, unless you can get the same dentist to do the job for less in their NI practice than their southern practice.

Dentist for nearly 20 year here, I know the facts and the myths.

Same cars are cheaper in the UK,

    I don't know about burgers

....how do you know the dentistry (or cars) are the same? Do you think that dental treatment is a off the shelf mass produced commodity item? Do you think that the standard of dental work is universally the same? Never mind factoring in the cost of travel, time off work. Generally your own time has to be worth very little to make it worth while. Its like VRT on the cars.
