Anybody have the feeling Moyes coming back is going to a big hit..as in save us from regulation.Bring us into the new staduim as manager in charge or we are going to sink big time. Its going to a big hit or miss I think.

I just see it as the safest option , no fireworks, just pragmatic football , which hopefully does the job , but in a years time expect it to become a bit boring . Areola from Bournmouth or the Brighton manager would be bigger risk , but more exciting and better long term . But the risk of relegation with the new stadiium is too much.

Sky reporting Moyes has agreed, not sure how I feal , not ecstatic, but think it is the right move all round.

The lack of goals in this team is a bit of worry though.Hopefully get someone in the transfer window.

it was fairly clear they didn’t know what to do once they got over the half way line. They’re used to having one player ahead of them and not 2-4.

Moyes is an Everton man at least. And identity is important. The club lost all sense of itself in the last ten years.

I mean, Benitez, Allardyce and Dyche. Those are not names that should ever have been associated with Everton. Club lost all sense of itself in the last decade

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,664 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

Yeah you can't just pick an attacking formation out of nowhere in the context of solely playing one defensively minded formation for the last two years and expect it to "work".

oh I know. I’m not blaming the players. I fully blame Dyche.

It reminds me of when Rooney came Back ! when signing for west ham he even said everton by mistake , football has to improve as its at such a low level atm

anyway, went Thursday night. Match not amazing but wasn’t expecting much. Absolutely loved the stadium. I expect it’ll be easy enough to get tickets from next season.

agree, those managers really hard to get behind, the wheels firmly came off - hopefully Moyes can get us back on track.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,555 ✭✭✭SickBoy

Right, he's the manager now so let's just get behind him and the team is how I see it.

Would a more progressive manager have been better for the long term, sure, but would a more progressive manager keep us up with the current crop of players, sadly I think the honest answer to that would be a resounding no.

    UTFT!!

Not blaming the players ?? Apart from Pickford, Brantwaithe and maybe Ndiaye, they're not Prem material.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 22,141 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

I disagree. When they have been allowed play they can do it. 5-1 away to Brighton and 4-0 against Wolves.

    It’s a mentality issue

Massive game tonight , win and we can break clear, a draw would be ok , but lose things will remain edgy

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 22,141 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

Villa are a decent side. I’ll be happy with a draw.

Need a (proper) striker and pacy winger as soon as - going nowhere with Harrison and Calvent Lewis, I dont know if his head is turned , but its like Maupay up front, one goal all season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,673 ✭✭✭dubrov

His head wasn't turned. He just isn't that good.

He had a good run for about 18 months but before and after that he has been muck.

I'd bite someone's hand off if we could get 20m

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,820 ✭✭✭beggars_bush

He shouldnt be playing if he cannot score

Could have won that game 2-1.

Villa are decent but didn't do much last night. They were gifted two gilt edge chances, both in completely needless circumstances, of which they took one.

At least Moyes will have seen with his own eyes that Harrison, Dacoure and probably DCL won't win you football matches.

Priorities for me would have to be a striker, no 10 and a right midfielder.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,664 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

I also think the three at the back should be explored further

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,090 ✭✭✭✭eh i dunno

20m? Missing a decimal point there. He's out of contract in the summer so we're getting nothing for him.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 5,944 Mod ✭✭✭✭Nowso

Moyes always used the 3rd centre back late sub - with Weir in the Past - the Picking of the same team was a big mistake , at least he seen how bad the likes of harrison is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,673 ✭✭✭dubrov

I didn't realise that DCL was out of contact in the summer. I'd say he was holding out hoping his form would return so he would get a better contract.

I'd expect any new contract to be at a significantly lower level than what he is currently on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,797 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

I would hope that we start the re-build without DCL , as you said previously far too inconsistent, Beto is not much better either , need a new proper 9 - going to be very difficult at this stage , given Arsenal are struggling to recruit one.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 22,141 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

Real no.9s are like hens teeth. Most youth teams only play with one striker so it seems like fewer and fewer come through.

Every team we (my u14 team) play at youth level play against have only one striker. It’s the norm now and has been for a decade.

Who was the last great no.9 before Haaland?

Even Haaland get stick for not working hard enough.

Thers a few around , I really like what Bournemouth are doing with recruitment, they look potent up front.

And an apology on Gordon , he really has developed at Newcastle . Newcastle recruitment being very good, given they have more money than anyone , they just brought in a few real quality signings each window, in comparison to the scattergun approach under Moshiri.

Another big game tomorrow , dont feal good about it, cause of our non potent strike force

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,797 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

I would maybe look at a loan for Richi if fit , it hasnt worked out for him at Spurs , given the scarcity of realistic targets, could be a long shot - if fit - he seamed to like Everton.

Be honest. Who else thought we were going to **** that up?

Good to see a bit of positive play up front , DCL scoring and playing well will do him good , Ndiaye has been a great buy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,664 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

Haven't enjoyed a half of football like that in a long long time. Playing footie with real intent. Ball on the deck. Those players showed that they can play. DCL looked reinvigorated.

Dacoure remains a weak link and needs replacing. Keane was poor when he came on. That ball should never have reached Richarlison.

Everton are going to find it very hard to replace Gana. I'll miss him greatly.

    Anyway In Moyes I trust.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,664 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

Oh and great stuff seeing Jake getting a run out. He did well. I prefer 3 at the back. We must have one of the biggest back threes in the league.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 22,141 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

I never want to see Keane play for Everton again. The guy is a disaster.

Thers rumours Sheffield United are in for him, be good for everyone including the player - and allow O'Brien a decent run in team

Can we organize a go fund to pay for his bus fare

I'd pass on Holgate, we can do better now and give O'Brien more game time

I agree. I was trying to explain how little I wanted Keane.

    Huge 3 points

Definite need to get another striker in now

Typical Everton. We'll probably screw up against Leicester. Couldn't believe how bad Spurs are. If we manage to beat Leicester we go above Spurs. That'd be nice!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,797 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

I really hope we do Leicester tomorrow, we are now still resticted by FFP , after 2 deductions etc , and cant buy players while DCL and other are out long term - meanwhile Leicester get off with zilch on a techniclaity - **** joke , while City hoover up half a team.

Watched most of the game. We were class. Actually class, score didn’t flatter us at all.
