Recording phone calls

    Hi all,
    Simple question, but hard to get 100% clarity. Is it legal to record your own phone calls without disclosure to other person. I'm not talking about interception of calls, but simply, I make a phone and I record it, so it is a 2 person conversation. It seems that it is legal in Ireland, but the more I read on it, the more I'm unsure! Thanks

    Perfectly legal provided at least one party I'd aware of the recording, in this case, Yourself.

    Thanks both. This is what it seemed, just was reading contradicting information online.

    To put a curve ball in, what if the call covers 2 legal jurisdictions. Ie: Call originated in England to an Irish number. Call was recorded by the receiver (Irish number).

    In addition, has GDPR altered recording legalities?

    Perfectly legal. Has been so since 1993. I think it was the Interception Of Postal Packets And Telecommunications Messages (Regulation) Act 1993 but I am open to correction on this.

    If in doubt ask. Simply parrot back the statement read to you. "These calls can be recorded for training and complicance purposes is that right?" Although it's perfectly legal but not necisarily admissable either way.

    The other option is a Subject Access Request and get therm to supply you with the call, it's a major pain in the bottom and usually you can get what you want instead.
