VRT rebate. Proof of sale

    Hi,

I brought my car to the VRT Rebate centre for inspection, and a subsequent quote.

I only received the letter / quote 3 weeks after the inspection, so this only gave me 1 week to find a buyer, export it to the U.K. and sell it... which is somewhat impossible.

I now have a buyer in the U.K. so I will be bringing the car back into the VRT Rebate centre to get a new quote... and start a new 4 week timeframe.

Considering you only have 4 weeks to sell it, what does the revenue require for proof of sale?

Proof of re-registration in the U.K.? Anything else. I’m slightly concerned that i’m at the mercy of buyer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

You only need to remove the vehicle from Ireland within 30 days. You don't need to have it sold by then.

Also, what is the date of inspection on a letter your received in the post 3 weeks later?
I did VRT export inspection on 3rd August, and received a letter with VRT refund valuation a week later on the 10th. On this letter, it says - date of inspection 8th August.
So that makes me wonder if I actually had to remove vehicle from Ireland 30 days from 3rd August or 8th August.
It didn't make any difference for me, as car was going around 20th anyways, but it might make a difference for you.
If I were you, I'd ring them and clarify.
I managed to get a number from Revenue which directs to Monaghan branch where they deal with VRT refund, but was unable to reach anyone on that phone on few attempts. You might be more lucky though. 047-62100

Revenue doesn't require proof of sale.
They require that vehicle is removed from Ireland within 30 days, and they require that it's re-registered in another country (if exporting within EU) and you must provide a proof of registration (f.e. copy of new registration cert).

Pretty much you are on buyer's mercy.
If buyer won't re-register the car in the UK, and won't provide you with a copy of V5C (registration cert), then you can forget about getting VRT refund.
You'd really need to make a deal with the buyer for him to provide a copy of it to you, and explain clearly why you need it, as otherwise most buyers would probably be vary of providing a copy of V5C.

I can imagine another way, would be to have it exported to UK, getting a friend or relative to have it registered there in their name which would give you access to V5C, and then sell it in the UK.
