We've heard a lot about Leafspeed™, but little about Ioniqspeed™. Well, a German site has been exploring what the optimal speed would be on a long motorway run, to achieve the best journey time. It makes interesting (Google translated) reading.

They've worked out that Ioniqspeed™ on a long motorway run is actually 133kph.

I'd be very interested to know if this is right as I regularly do a long run on the UK M4. The Google translation is a bit clunky, but you can get where they're coming from. They have less of an issue with CCS charger locations than we do here, or in the UK, so it might have no relevance for us. Worth thinking about though.

    Any thoughts?

Problem with such calculations is the fact then even in Germany CCS is not dense enough to be able to charge wherever you want, so you need to adjust speed to your particular journey. There is also issues that multicharger points are quite rare, so you always need some reserve to reach alternative charge in case of charge point failure.

Every long journey is going to involve a fair bit of forward planning. Even going slower wouldn't help with charger placement. In fact, doing higher speeds might work best where charger spacing suits.

I thought that squeezing every km out of the battery by reducing speed would be the best strategy. It looks like that could be wrong. If the chargers were spaced right-ish, then the ~130kmh strategy sounds like a whole lot more fun, as well as making the journey shorter, time wise.

Unkel's new avatar when he sees Ioniqspeed™ is 133km/h :)
