I’ve heard that my local credit union is now seeking employment contracts from loan applicants now, in addition to bank statements and pay slips. Has anyone else experience of this? Seems a bit draconian.

There's a good chance that this comes from the Central Bank because they have imposed more strict conditions and this may be a general rule that's going to be a universal feature of borrowing from any CU.
