WTD : Carbon SPD-SL pedals

Picked up a bargain pair of S-Works shoes so using that as the reason to jump to SPD-SL pedals.

Looking for a pair of carbon pedals to compliment them though, so either 105(5800) or recent Ultegra/Dura Ace seem to be my options.

The cosmetic condition doesn’t matter to me, but I would like them to be in at least reasonable mechanical condition.

Hoping someone here has something reasonably priced before I go eBay hunting!

The 5800s are a nice pedal but are pretty pricey compared to standard 105 versions and they don't save much weight at all....15-20g if I recall. You can sometimes get them coming up used on UK forums if you keep an eye out. I don't think they represent good value if your have to pay rrp

Yeah they do seem pretty steep at RRP. I’m trying to do as much bargain hunting as possible! Will have to keep an eye out on forums too!

Out of interest OP where did you find the bargain shoes ? ! I'm on the look out to do exactly what you're doing after 14 years on Time pedals.

eBay! Granted I’m probably luckier than most since I’m a small shoe size so there is generally less bidding going on. Came away with a VGC pair for 30 quid though so I’m not complaining!

I actually work with outdoor footwear and a good trick for finding a bargain for new shoes is wait until the new season stock is released, which is right around now. You’ll find brands selling off the exact same shoe in last years colour for a healthy discount. I’d imagine it’s the exact same with cycling brands.

    For info, OP...
The 105 5800 pedals are on sale in Evans at the moment..70.77 euro and 12 euro delivery

I'll happily split cost with you if you are also ordering a set-I have the DuraAce model and they are superb.

I am looking to consolidate and have the same pedals on both bikes-fed up with the faff that is Speedplay pedals on the other bike..

I use 105 pedals, but hired a bike this year that had the R550 and couldn't tell the difference.

€20 and 15g difference between the two.

    €20 difference in price.

€50 on wiggle, 45 on Evans.
