Four people arrested for providing an illegal IPTV service
Could this be the beginning of the end for IPTV ??

Do you think a couple of arrests and seizure of assets mean the end of the drug trade?
    the illegal cigarette trade?
    any illegal activity?

I think the amount of resources spent on such investigations should be compared to resources spent on other investigations into more socially serious crimes, and priority given to those.
Maybe that is already the case which is why there have been few such arrests as this.

I do not like the implications from this
Significant support is being provided by some of the major TV companies and the Motion Picture Association.
    according to a Garda statement.

I dislike the implication that such investigations could be influenced by corporate bodies who have nothing except their own agendae to pursue.

Far from the end of IPTV, plenty of providers worldwide, this is just most likely a few resellers from Facebook peddling their cheap android boxes and subscriptions, you would not need to be inspector Clouseau to track them down on Facebook to be fair...

It's their 'product'. When you see instances of counterfeit goods being ceased, there's often the involvement of specialists from companies who assist in identifying the counterfeit items.

    There's nothing odd or sinister.

We had pirate videos 35 years ago, sky cards 25 years ago, dodgy boxes up to 10 years ago, android boxes and many more. I don't think they will ever stop things like this

I'd actually say they are selling what's truly rightfully the peoples property back to the people, thus making it a form of wealth extraction. Conglomerates and large corporations aren't actually helping humanity, but humans will always resist this type of behaviour, and by using their intelligence and abilities, will always find ways around protective measures, reducing the ability to extract wealth from such processes. Iptv is doing just fine

You might very well believe so.
I will retain my healthy scepticism.

What a bizarre statement, 'the people's property'.

Nothing bizarre about it at all, ultimately this is about power, wealth and control of large conglomerates and corporations, and to the extent in which they will use anything and everything at their exposure, including the legal system to gain and maintain power and control

Of course every second kid on Facebook is selling IPTV but these are only re-sellers for the people who are providing the channels/servers and I would imagine with the Gardai seeking to freeze €84,000 in their bank accounts the people raided/arrested would be at the higher end of the pyramid here in Ireland and a lot of Irish resellers would be peddling their services.

Anyone know what iptv this was?

The cops are going to be playing whack a mole here, bate one into the ground and 2 more will spring up...

And if it keeps getting worse with cops cracking down then people will just avail of the services over the pond be it UK or Europe and use VPNs

If the PL really gave a shît about their crust they should have introduced a team pass per team you follow for a year, but that's still a few years away if Sky have anything to do with it...

So you are in favour of a world free of intellectual copyright? Patents and so on? Without them the pills you are taking (if you are taking any) would never have been developed and so then go off patent to be produced cheaply.

What I am in favour of, are systems and processes that are about improving the health and well being of all humans, not what we currently have of wealth extraction, and ultimately power and control by large conglomerates and corporations. Interesting you mention patents, are these processes, which can be good for humanity, actually being used to truly benefit mankind or control us, by these organisations?

Okay, this isn’t the politics or the philosophy forum. You can take the high level discussion about the nature of humanity or society or whatever somewhere else. I’ve also seen a number of posts effectively advocating piracy. That’s also not allowed. As this effectively concerns an ongoing criminal investigation I think the only thing to do is close this thread for now lest any potential proceedings be prejudiced.
