Commercial property and short term lets

    If someone owned a building that had a commercial premises at the bottom and an apartment above, could they legally do short term lets in the apartment? Is the whole building zoned for commercial use?

    I doubt it as it's illegal to live in a commercial premises.

    Thanks for the reply. So is there two different zones, one for the commercial premises on the ground and floor and one for the apartment on the second floor?

    The fact there is commercial underneath is not relevant.The issue is what is the planning status of the residential unit?

    No, commercial is not a planning permission, instead you would have permission for "retail unit" etc.

    What you would require is specific permission for short term lets.
