Keep looking. You can get real tyres from brands you’ve heard of for that kind of money.

Tyre places recommend this stuff because their margin is way higher than on mainstream brands.

    Try openio dot ie
Stick in your tyre sizes and you can check the price of tyres
This does not include fitting or balancing
Just you buy the tyres and get someone to fit

Road noise is rotten, and there's no such thing as comfort. They feel like tyres Fred Flintstone would use.

I did get mine back in 2015 so prices probably went up
    My mate fitted them
Just looked at website I said
58 quid for hancook each delivered to your door
Not sure what fitting and balancing your garage would cost
    15 a corner I guess

Keep ringing around. Tyre pricing is infuriatingly secretive and illogical.
Ask for brand name tyres. Write it down and keep ringing.

205/55-16 seems to be the one size that all Tyre Crowds are pushing nowadays. Chinese stuff but some are just about OK.

Most Tyre Places are advertising them at €50 each, with some even dropping to €40 now and again.
Had two sets on a Prius for a coupe of years and no problems....although the Prius is the one Car that will do everything in it's power not to spin wheels, lock up, or slide off the road :).

For the right price, they could be a fine deal.

    tyreleader.ie
    oponeo.ie
    www.tyres-pneus-online.ie
    eiretyres.ie

    http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Search/deestone

There's some online tyre shops, I got 4 nokian (205/55/16, triple A rating) some weeks back off tyreleader, delivered no problem and E50 to fit them.

and a link to reviews of Deestone tyres, E70 get you some Bridgestones, Goodyear,

There isn't really any savings in that size by buying online, 205/55/r16 is probably the most common size tyre available these days. A place is going to charge you at least €10 a tyre to fit and balance so you really need to be buying the tyre online for €50 or less for it to make sense imo. It's really only the bigger less common size high end stuff that you will see a reasonable savings on from buying online.

The big advantage of online is you have information, ratings, specs, prices etc at hand.
    Bazz is right about pricing.

Anything with 'stone' in the name has to be good. It's like a gentleman's agreement between tyre manufacturers not to give themselves a stone name until they reach a certain vaguely defined level of competence

    OP here again

would Uniroyal RainSport 3 be a good of tyre for €75?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 889 ✭✭✭morritty

That's what I'm running now, i hear they wear quick but I can say they have great grip with some spirited driving.

The Three Ratings listed beside online Tyres are Fuel Efficiency, Grip, and Noise. These Ratings are all supplied by the Tyre Manufacturer and, as such, should be ignored :).

Op, Rainsport 3's can be got online for €59.40. If you can get someone to fit them for €10 or less (per tyre) then you are €20 up....if you prefer to buy locally, you're not being fleeced at €75 per Tyre.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,440 ✭✭✭The Rape of Lucretia

You should be able to find a set of Goodrides for €10ea less than the Rainsports, but would still need to get them fitted. RP28s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,261 ✭✭✭mgbgt1978

Coming in at €43.83 ea for the Sa-37 . €50.37 for the RP28's
Depends whether the Op is after a Goodride or not I suppose.....

They’re both round and black. That’s about all they have in common.

Yep, I agree you have to factor in tyre and fitting, I got the brand I like, that's all, I rang a few places here for the Nokians and no one done them, one said they used to stock them but they didn't sell, no one would buy them at the same price as Goodyear etc, as they never heard of them.
These ones are as quite on the road over my last set, (nokian line) see how long they last now.

Why do people put their lives on the line to save €50?!

Buy tyres from a company that have a reputation to maintain.

It's funny when you see them on something high end, someone bankrolled a lovely car and can't afford the one thing to keep it between the ditches :D

People see tyres as a running cost like tax or fuel. They don't see it as an extension of the car they splashed out on so will do anything to cheap out on it.

I know people who will get tint on every car or sort out a sound system. Won't spend a penny on Premium tyres.

Plenty of people out there putting S-Line wheels on their cars but can't afford decent tyres for a 19/20" wheel.

Love them apart from the price! Had mainly Goodyear Eagles F1s on my 335i and these are every bit as good if not better (given the extra torque in the 330d).

I've been using F1s too for the last few years but they seem to have jumped substantially in price lately for some reason.

I have F1s on an s-max and find them great. Very rarely see traction control flickering. I had had hankoks previously and it was fairly easy to to light up TC on a wet road. I have nexen blue on a Leaf and they will spin out at the slightest provocation with the TC lighting up constantly to the point that I'm consciously feathering the right pedal on take off to limit wheel spin. Great fun in an underground cap park .. reminds me of underground car park scenes in old American films with the constant squealing of tyres.

    Oponeo.ie are fantastic,

we were quoted €600 for 245/45/18 roadstones in a local garage which we had before but didn't wear too great.

Got goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 3`s for €129 a corner on Oponeo.ie and fitting was €15 a corner so overall much better value then the 4 roadstones.

Don`t cheap on tyres (and dont listen to garages either, do your research before choosing brand)
