    Hi.

Will be moving (from Dublin) to new build in Earlsfort very shortly.
Anyone know what broadband / tv is like there and what provider is best? I have Virgin in Dublin but they don't service Earsfort.
Any boardsies live there? Put money down on lovely house rather quickly & getting bit panicky now as know nothing about the area...
    Thanks!

In terms of TV, you'll almost certainly be able to reliably pick up both UK and Irish channels, some in HD, using a roof-top aerial due to your proximity to the border. I could do so in Dundalk using an unamplified aerial designed for caravans, pointing through a building at the transmitter. You won't need a satellite dish like you would in Dublin if you're happy with the free channels unless there's a particular channel you want that's not available through an aerial. For subscription channels you either have Sky or whatever TV service (if any) your broadband provider provides. Other than that, it's Now TV, Netflix, Prime etc.

In terms of Internet, the ESB's SIRO fibre (1 Gbps) is available through Vodafone as well as Digiweb (a local company based in Dundalk). Any provider that uses a telephone line will provide up-to-100Mbps broadband, actual speeds vary depending on how close you are to the cabinet. The service won't vary considerably between providers (for example both Vodafone and Digiweb use the same fibre, while Sky, Eir, Magnet, Pure etc. all use the same telephone line) but prices and customer service, as well as the quality of the router and perks such as a free Eir/BT Sport subscription with Eir will.

For nothing but the sake of completeness there's also wireless broadband available from companies such as Net1 (also locally based in Dundalk) and Digiweb; mobile broadband from the mobile providers and satellite broadband (note that Sky broadband is not satellite based unlike their TV offering) but I'd avoid all of these (especially satellite which is a true last resort when nothing else is available) as you have much better options.

I live in Earlsfort. Nice estate, well maintained, Mostly young families with kids.

TV is good & have just signed up with Digiweb, can't comment how good it is yet.

Mobile coverage isn't great, have tried both 3 & Vodafone. Works better upstairs than downstairs.

Sextons across the road is good for a bite to eat & a quiet drink, also Jackie's pub/restaurant across the road but Mrs LCD doesn't like it so haven't been there in years.
Blackrock is walking distance & always a bit of activity there. Couple of good cafes, pubs, places to eat & shops
€15 ish for taxi into town. Is a Supervalu 10mins walk away. 3 primary schools in the area. Good playground in the Blackrock Park by the community center.

virgin have been all around town doing work... i dont think the TV service is available in Earlsfort though...

you'll have access to sky and eir... i'd say there is fibre in the area and you can also use digiweb for the broadband... antenna and normal fibre connection

Have you moved in yet? Care to share your experience? We too were looking at here but were advised against it as it's gotten rough. Seemingly they built a council estate next to it and its causing all sorts of problems.

Believe Earlsfort is fine. The estate down the road Cois Farraige is rough enough. It has the council estate beside it.

Sorry SvenBertil - I totally forgot to respond after seeing your post.

Have moved in and it's a really nice area and estate. Super quiet! Absolutely no sign of any problems and the houses seem to be very well built (my snagger was really impressed with the finish and the lack of items to snag). Whilst I am new to the area I can definitely recommend it!
Broadband is very fast - we have SIRO through Vodafone and it's brilliant and not too expensive.
Lots of young professional families in the estate and certainly in the part I am in they are friendly and it's all very family oriented.
All in all I am delighted with our new home.

Hi guys, i know this post is a long time ago, i was wondering if anyone knows why the developer in Earlsfort has been struggling to sell all the houses in years? Someone told me there is drainage issue and it's a ghosted estate. I'm looking to buy a house in there.

    Thanks

I had a look in there before and found the homes to be extremely small, very little privacy and back gardens are completely over looked. They might be grand for a couple not looking to start a family but in my opinion it has a very cramped feel to it compared to other new estates.

    Thats only my observation

Thank you, i did notice they mixed the terrace with detached and semi detached in a weird way like no particular order to the buildings. Ah oh well i'll have to decide.
