I want to put an external door where there is currently a solid wall. Could anyone give me an idea of what such a job would cost? It's a long time since I've had such work done and am wondering if it is a runner at all on my budget.

Have you got the external door already?if you don't then your either paying for a hardwood or PVC door.your looking at a few hundred euro between door and frame.labour side of things.you have to be cutting through 2 leaf wall that's a day with a consaw and kango, half day fitting external door another half day plastering.all in labour wise 450-500 euro plus then whatever for price of door

That's not as bad as I feared. Would that include any internal plastering needed to repair around the door too do you think?

Will you need a lintel ?
Also, steps and finish to front of door and inside also.
Don't know prices but just to ensure you consider and price all in

No way the op is getting that done for that price unless he gets mates rates or knows builders/handy men that can do this.

Most definitely lintel required overhead. Also creating a hole in the building envelope, so insulation treatment, part l compliant door, finished I think it’s a 2k job at least and that’s assuming a basic uPVC door and nothing out of the ordinary.

So sounds like a budget of 2500 would be advisable. 🀔

My price was for labour only
    2 lintels €20
    Roll of insulation€25
    Plastering materials roughly €100
2 days labour in total put into it €250 per day
Cost of door ranges from €80 on done deal second hand to €1500 in showroom
