    Failed nct on steering linkage.

One reason was a leaking rack and pinion and the other was an insecure steering gaiter. Any idea on the cost for both jobs separate? Thanks

It's really one single job. Have the steering rack replaced with an exchange unit, which will already have new gaiters fitted. Now that is assuming the rack itself is leaking. I wouldn't take what the tester says as gospel. Have it looked at by someone competent first.

Any ideas roughly what a new unit would cost to get and be fitted all included? Thanks

there's a few guys that rebuild steering racks. Cost 200 last time I used him, I removed the rack myself so don't know the cost of the job but he did say he had a guy that charged 200 to remove and replace rack. That was during the recession so might be more expensive now days.
I'm guessing the gaiter could be replaces when the rack is going back in so what ever the cost of the part, or maybe it just needs a cable tie it's hard to know without seeing it.

New racks are very expensive, you'd easily be into the thousands for the whole job anyway.

An exchange unit like I suggested is a reconditioned unit, and you give your old unit back. It's a lot cheaper than a brand new unit.

I see you haven't taken the hint and told us the make and model yet.....
