What would be high mileage for a 171/172?

A few cars viewed, most 171/172 with a few 181s.

I liked the 171 but it has 28k on it and was wondering if that would be considered high for its age or anything else I should be wary of. It still has a warranty until 2020, drives ok and is clean.

The 181 had 16k. Same car and spec. Both 2L diesels. About 2 k in price difference.

Have put 50k on a company car in a year easily! So not unusual. No big deal at all once it's had its scheduled service/s.

For €2k it would be worth going a year newer, good chance it’s ex rental though.

Lots of 181 ex rentals are just back with dealers from hire now that the tourist season is finished.

181 is up to 8 months old thus covered approx 2000 km month.
171 is up to 20 months old so has only covered 1400 km month.
Difference is in year, mileage on both is not high, really by any standards.
Another point to remember: are they both 1 owner cars?

    Miles or km's?

I suspect the 181 is ex rental. Dealer said it's a pre reg from the main dealer in Dublin but my understanding is pre reg cars are 'new' as in no mileage.

Would a history check show if it was a rental?

Pre regs normally have almost no mileage on them. They certainly would not have 16k on them. Lots of dealers these days passing off ex rentals as being ex demos and pre regs.

I have a 171 with almost 27,000 miles. That's only a few thousand over the average. I'd be concerned with high mileage on older cars of over 100,000 miles.

If you like the car I'd be more concerned that it has been serviced correctly. If it has full service history then you have 5 or 6 years left on the warranty.

Irish car, 171 or 181 has to be KM's

Pne owner doesn't mean one driver

Get the car you want not the reg plate

Your own mileage will matter a lot more on resale value.

Anything under 50k km is not big annual

50kkm/30k Miles would be on the very high end and and way over average.

That would annoy me. I can’t abide salespeople lying. We had no problem selling ex rentals as just that. Selling them as “demos” or even “showroom models” with 15-20k on them when they’re rentals is outright lying.

Agree here. The 50k is on the high side but should be taken into account in the buying price and your own added on will then effect your resale value.
In any case I don't think the 16k/ 28k in this case could hardly be considered high or extreme.

also take into consideration the warranty. how many km before it runs out? some are 75k some are 100k. iirc one brand is down to 60k.

if you are going to do 30k yourself annually, the warranty may not last the 3 years

The average annual mileage of a privately owned petrol car in Ireland is about 17,000 kilometres (10,500 miles). Diesel cars, if they have been used for business purposes, could have a higher average of about 24,000 kilometres (15,000 miles).
