Hi, can anyone recommend someone that could help me hardwire my dashcam. I am 99% of the way there with the cable trailing all the way to the fusebox but am unsure what fuses I can use etc.

It's not too difficult to do yourself if you feel confident enough. I wired mine into the cigarette lighter fuse using an adaptor. This allows the dash cam and the regular cigarette lighter fuse to share the same socket. Got a cheap plastic panel pliers and removed some of the panels on the pillar and went right down into the fuse box. This is fairly easy on a Volkswagen.

Could I get a pic of your fuse box? I got as far as the fuse box but don't know what to tap into?

Does the lid of your fuse box have a list of the fuses? Stick up a picture of that if you can. Have you a fuse tap to use?

This one? If so, the bottom right is the cigarette lighter (right hand one of the 40,20,20). Someone else might know if the lighter in a Mk6 golf switches with ignition.

You'd find out by plugging a phone charger into it and setting of it goes off with the keys anyway.

Think that looks like it just that's in a left hand drive. My tap is for the mini fuses.

The fuse diagram is in the owner's manual, looks for the one next to the driver side pillar. The 12V socket will be the one your after. As another poster mentioned, I confirmed the fuse by plugging them out one by one in the general region of the 12v socket until the connect device turned off.

Will get a picture of this anyway to show the adapter.

If using a fuse tap make sure it’s installed the correct way around otherwise you’ll won’t get protection from the fuse in the circuit.

Never got around to sorting this. If anyone could recommend a cheap, reliable person to hook this into my fusebox. Please pm me.

    Thanks,
    Dosser

If you’ve already ran the wiring, the likes of MDS in Palmerston could do this in 5 minutes.
