folio registered to a solicitor

    hoping someone here might help

    theres a piece of land (about 30 acres) beside my house that has been left idle with years, and I would be interested in buying at least half of it as a hobby farm. im new to the area.
    a neighbour farmer lets cattle in there every so often.
    i got the folio number but its registered to a solicitor. i contacted the solicitor for the owners name, but they are not giving it to me. why wud the land be registered to a solicitor?

    and is there any other way i can get the owners name (other than ask the neighbours!)?

    Maybe the solicitor owns the property or another possibility is that the solicitor was acting in trust for his client as the client wanted it to remain confidential - not sure about the in trust option though. Maybe someone else could clarify that

    If it's registered to the solicitor, then it seems the solicitor owns it I would think but open to correction on this.

    On the face of it, the solicitor owns it.

    He may be holding it as trustee for someone else; there's no way to know (unless he tells you) but also no reason to think that he is.

    But, then, any registered proprietor of land could be holding it as trustee for someone else. You don't have to be a solicitor to be a trustee.
