Looking for Gerbils or Degus

I'm looking for a pair or Gerbils or Degus around Limerick City or Waterford City areas.

I have years of experience with various small flurries like hamsters, Guinea pigs, rabbits and ferrets.

I've been interested in getting gerbils or Degus for quite some time now, I just couldn't come across them even though I've been on a constant lookout for them.

If someone could advice me on somewhere or someone who might have gerbils/Degus up for sale, I would greatly appreciate it!

If you get degus have you given any thought as to what you will feed them? They have low tolerance of sugary foods and are prone to diabetes.

I've done plenty of research over the past months and I'm aware of the fact that they are prone to diabetes. I will be providing the Degus with good quality meadow or Timothy hay along with a good quality pellets sold specifically for them, along with two to three fresh pieces of vegetables a day. I was looking at either getting beaphar xtravital degu food mix or else vitacraft menu degu feed.

There was no degu food when I had them. I made up my own mix of 75 percent chinchilla pellets 15 percent rolled oats and 10 percent guinea pig mix. I also had chinchillas and guinea pigs at the time so it wasn't as much hassel as it sounds. The biggest hassle was importing chinchilla pellets from the states as you couldn't get it here or in the UK either. I bagged it up in small Ziploc bags and froze it in a chest freezer to keep it fresh. It's nowhere near as much hassle now :D

Sorry I can't help you on where to source your pets but best of luck.

Horkan's pet shop in Castlebar, Mayo sell Degu's- They had some 2 weeks ago when I was in there . If you give them a shout they might be able to tell you who their supplier is and  if you rlucky supplier might know more local people near you.

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I was hoping for some place closer to me, either Waterford or Limerick, but if that fails, I'll travel to Mayo.

I have been checking both petmanias (jutland and ballysimon) quite often, unfortunately had no luck so far. I will be making another trip down tomorrow to see if anything changed.

Paws and Claws at foxes bow had some Degus up until recently but when I came in again after getting the setup ready, all were sold out.

I'm quite shocked that I could not find any Gerbils or Degus around the two reasonably large cities...

Thank you so mcu for letting me know!

I saw that ad, those are absolute beauties. The lady who is giving them away wants them to go in groups of five. As much as I would love to take all five, I feel that since I'm a beginner to those animals, it would be much more responsible of me to have a pair first. That way I could provide more attention and resources, as well as time to each individual animal and out of cage play time.

Having 5 little critters to start off with seems very overwhelming.

I do appreciate the suggestion though, thank you so much!
