Lake/Pond infill options

    Hi folks,

I have a large pond at the end of garden that I don't particularly want and is a hazard to kids.
It fills in winter from a ditch dug by neighbouring farmer.

I've been told that planning to have it filled was previously denied.

I'm surprised that I would need Planning to have it filled given its man-made in the first instance.

Any thoughts as to my options to have it filled in? It's about 1500 square metres.

    Thank you.

have you access to get it filled wit gravel/hardcore: if is 1 meter deep then thats 1,500 cubic meters at maybe 2 tonne a cu m
    Thats a lot of wheelbarrows

does it dry out in summer?

who told u about the planning, the farmer :(

If its a hazard to your kids, I'd be inclined to do whatever to make it safe.
Fencing it off likely won't do the job as kids will always be exploring. Could you get a drain dug / deepened to allow all the water to escape leaving a dry recess?

If it's acting as flood storage during winter how about making an application to increase it to 3750m2 and filling it with clean gravel approx 40% good that way you will retain the existing storage..A good engineer with experience in flooding should be able to sort this quite easily for you.

Filling it is a very poor solution to your problem. When not fence it. Furthermore it could be protected.

The problem is it's a hazard to their kids putting a fence up reduces the hazard, filling it in removes the hazard completely. Fine it hard to see why you think fillng is a poor solution ??
    What protection would it have??

If be inclinded to fence it off personally. And seek to convert it into a Natural swimming pond for when the kids are older.

My brother in Laws neightbour has similar and the kids absolutely love in in the summer, has a nice dock on it for jumping and gets them all out of the house in the summer.

Look up natural Swimming ponds on youtube.
