Just kicking this off for a poster who has calves being born now, and is wondering about bedding for the lieback area for calves. What works for ppl on here with autumn born calves.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

I don't know if this will help as we are lucky with the location. I put a bar across the cubicles and the calves can run out there into a field and I can tie gates together and leave them in and out. Means they don't draw on the mother as much,I can give them nuts as needed and much less illness and work for me then having them on straw beds. We always out wintered our calves though. Now ones that are born Jan Onwards we have a straw lieback area for a couple of weeks and then move them to the other cubicles. Seems to work well for us. If it's particularly cold I do given them another area with straw but they like being out more.

Do you mean what kind of bedding or what sort of set up to allow the calves an area to lie on without cows raiding it?

Have 1 free pen where the autumn calves can go lie, which has access to feed trough, water & silage.
Calves generally lie on the slats but I put a fresh pallet at start of winter, for extra comfort
