The Ordnance Survey have released new maps at http://map.geohive.ie/ - under "Data Catalogue" select "Base Information and Mapping" and then "6 Inch Cassini" to see Dublin circa 1935. You can use the "Transparency" selector to compare between maps.

Superb! As someone who has an interest in historic maps, I will find this a source of great enjoyment. :)

    Thanks Victor!

PS: Having done my postgrad thesis on the evolution of suburban Dublin 1930 - 1995, I’d say that map is a tad older than 1935 - closer to 1900 I’s say. By 1935, Marino, much of Drumcondra was built, as was Glasnevin, Terenure, Cabra East, Clontarf was underway, and Crumlin was beginning development, all of which is still very rural in that map.

Even the first estates in Rathfarnham and Whitehall were underway by ‘35. What the OSI really need to put up is the 12” map of Dublin revised 1937-38. - that would give a good indication of the pattern of development of the city by the mid 1930s.

That is really cool. Looking back on my area there are a number of round forts included

These street maps give a much closer indication of how Dublin looked circa 1935.

The possibly '35 map is definitely post '21 for Maynooth as the town hall / courthouse is gone - blown up

It has to be after 1920/2 or so, as The Tenters is built. I had been told that the Shandon area in Phibsborough was built in the 1930s, and it is already on its way according to that map. I wonder if the map is 1935, but hadn't updated certain areas?

Does anyone know how to get later maps than the 1930s? Would love to see the development between then and the 1980s or so.

Almost on the same lines, some great 1950s aerial shots of Dublin and some other parts of Ireland (and other countries) here:

I imagine there is a spread - it takes time to do each sheet, so they wont all be the same year. It is certainly post-1922 as the entire Marino estate is built.
