Building a shed...

I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff so I would be paying for someone to do this, but I do want to spend some time deciding what I want /researching the different options.... I'd very grateful for any tips or things for me to go and Google etc.

Looking to have a shed built. The purpose is basically storage. Bicycles, tools, a fridge freezer etc.

I think max size without planning is 25sq mt internal floor space? I am thinking this might be bigger than I need.

I am thinking I need to dig and lay a foundation, which can also serve as a concrete floor?

    Block built. Cavity or solid?

    Flat or pitched roof?

I want some light, so a window or two. Good solid door. Is upvc sufficient or metal door necessary?

Wired and plumbed. Inside and outside plastered and painted.

With so many variables it's impossible to cost it, but is there any sort of minimum cost? Are there certain choices that have a big impact on cost? And what are the downsides?

It's just storage. Definitely won't ever be a gym or hanging out space, but equally I'd like a decent bit of space for 5 or so bicycles, tools etc, and probably things like suitcases and Christmas trees, ladders, painting equipment will end up in there. So I'd like a bigger space than the typical garage that you'd see in a 3 bed semi in Dublin.

Thanks in advance if anyone has any comments or pointers

Get a prefab shed. It will do everything you need. Forget block building you've no need for one.

A few suppliers out there and they can spec the size and rest of the shed to you requirements.

You mean the metal short of sheds? Have seen a few online but didn't like the look of any so far.

They'd be secure enough for say 20k plus worth of bikes and tools?

Or kellybarna.ie. they build and assemble concrete sheds. Pre-pebble dashed. They assembled mine (14×17') on site in 1/2 a day.

You do have to have a concrete base.

A great shed, and can be lined inside if you wish.

No affiliation, just a happy customer.

Wired and plumbed OK? Having a good look on their website. Prices seem reasonable. Did you put concrete base down yourself or get them to do it?

If it's just for storage, wiring and plumbing seems like madness.

Would be fiddling with bicycles (some light would be nice) and also as mentioned want a fridge freezer too. Agree plumbed is probably unnecessary.

I never once heard a man complain that the shed he built was too big.

I wired it myself. Bought cable, sockets, switch, fuseboard and fastened the lot to the wooden beams and frames.

    No plumbing.

I had the base down already (was doing refurb to the house at the time) and if you are doing it make sure to put a lip all around. I think it explains it on their website.
IIRC cost was 5k 10 years ago.
    It's still rock solid.
I can take photos tomorrow if you want.
