Creative Commuter Parking

    HI,

Would it be legal to park a car on the grass verge at this location in Sandyford, past the speed limit sign?

The road markings between lane one and two ban merging, therefore it is not a junction. Nearest junction is at the traffic lights down the road.

There are no coloured lines on the left hand side of the roadway.

It is not a grass margin - as this is defines as the grass between a footpath and a road, there is no footpath.

Possible to park without obstructing roadsigns.

On the opposite side of the carriage way there is a hardshoulder with clearway, but nothing on this side.

    https://www.google.com/maps/@53.2751974,-6.2209585,3a,75y,325.53h,85.11t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1smA3KCH6Jw0RqI0WP39Y9eA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

Is there a rule I haven't thought of?

    Thanks

I'm sure you could, but why would you?
Pay the 4 euro and get several options of all day parking.

Someone will notice and think your car has been abandoned and I'd expect to find it lifted by someone, or bricked.

It is isolated by motorway junctions such that nobody walks in that area at all.

Its not, there is an estate that's not very pleasant just behind those trees.

Also, I think the thousands of cars that pass would spot it.

Criminal Damage Act if you damage the grass.

What about not parking opposite a continuous white line?

Interesting - I always thought of Sandyford as an expensive/posh area.
There are similar possibilities on the other side of the motorway at that junction.
Is that area just as "rough"?

I'm also finding estates around leopardstown where there is parking at the side of corner sites, near along green areas etc. Are people in that area especially militant over parking? Is it a rough place too?

The area off that road is a settled estate which, although it's not posh, hasn't been rough or unpleasant in over twenty years. Dublin people are quick to judge and slow to forget an estate's reputation. I lived there for a few years and had no problem at all. I don't mean 'keep your head down and you'll be left alone', I mean no problem at all. Not even kids hanging around on corners.

OP, that road isn't just from a motorway junction, it also links Sandyford village with the industrial estate. Despite the council's best efforts, people do walk and cycle along it. Given that there are no footpaths on either side, I'd argue the grass verge could be treated as a footway under the RTA-1997 definition which would exclude it from being parked on.

I'm not going to get into an argument about it as it's off topic, but the "shopping centre" just down the road is not a pleasant area, I certainly wouldn't be leaving my car there overnight.
