    Hea,

About to pull the trigger on an auto 2015 (facelift) A6 190bhp ultra, Black edition.

Looking for toys I should expect and overall reviews in general.

Does this car have the active exhaust resonstor where it turns the sound of a diesel into a V8. I know the bi turbo has this.

Anyhow, would love to know the watch outs ( pos and neg) of buying one of these.

    Thanks..

Hi we have a 190 142 pre face lift ultra in the family.

As far as I'm aware the black and ultra are different spec variations of the a6.

Black been no chrome with the larger wheels.
Ultra , twin exhaust one each side, Bose speakers, alot of spec on the interior .

It doesn't have the exhaust valve you mention. It's very high spec a uk car. Reverse camera seems to be a rare extra on them surprisingly.
    Don't buy a manual,

And in case your driveway is a tight entrance bare in mind the mirrors don't fold electronically.

    Great car.
    Best of luck with it

Thanks for reply. Car I'm looking at has reversing camera.

Would love to know how does it compare to the 520 m sport?

Absolutely love the look of the E60 5 series. Never got the F10 BMW.
The audi A6 C7 is a thing of beauty imo...

    They're not mutually exclusive. I have a 182 black edition ultra a6

I moved from a 2011 f10(non msport) to the be ultra a6. Very different rides. BMW felt much more of a heavier car on the road,a6 feels much more nimble. Not sure I'd call either ride better, just very different

Oh lord no. Reminds me of my childhood when I put a flattened milk carton on the back wheel of my bike to make is sound like a scrambler. I'd hope Audi wouldn't attempt to as cringe worthy these days.

Abt to buy it private too. Nervous and am buying a separate 24 month warranty so that should cover me I think.

Know my cars, but still what should I check for?

Nice car. Black edition is exterior trim and ultra interior as I mentioned

Rare to get them together was my thoughts.

Top spec. Very nice car you got

If buying it private I'd suggest meet the seller at there home. Ie see where the car is parked since they own it, check the drive way for any oil marks.

Some models take ad blue. My family a6 ultra has an ad blu filler next to the fuel cap. If it's not been topped up regularly be wary.

Agree to view the car where it's not been started or driven for a couple of hours. Dpf can be an issue. So let it cold start and idle to normal temp. Get in an move it back and forth a couple. Of meters and stand at the back of the car and watch for puffs of smoke on idle. This shouldn't happen but is a common fault which can be expensive.

Also rubber on rear windows can catch. Open the back doors an up and down the windows a couple of times.

Best of luck with it. I'm sure you'll love it

No, I'm not looking for it ha ha, it's just I know a lad, who knows a lad....
Anyhow he says me man has a 161 2.0 desiel with this addition.
I presume he got this then as a factory extra if that's even possible?

I've a 142 ultra s-tronic 190 and it uses adblue. Probably get about 5000 miles between fills but its pretty cheap to buy at 11 euro for 10 litres.

Stay away from the manual. The offset pedals and transmission bulge make it a painful experience after a while.

The auto is better from that point of view but the pedals are still offset too. The accelerator pedal is really off to the right and the foorest is way too far forward (towards engine bay) so that you end up twisting to find a comfy driving position. Thats my biggest and probably only bugbear about the car. Some people dont notice it but some do.

Very common spec in UK, tech pack important addition, it includes reversing cam, colour dis with maps, touchpanel in centre console etc. Well worth having. Google maps nice with SIM card data. 20 inch alloys a bit hard around bad roads. Otherwise not much missing from that spec if have tech pack. I read about that offset a bit but have never noticed it in various Audi’s. I find the dead pedal a bit far away alright making it useless though. The other annoyance is all the beeps (passenger airbags on, adblue etc) and the stop start can be a bit quick to kick in once warm and coming to a stop locking steering early.

I have the control software which was handy on older cars, hardly anything to add to the newer ones in this spec, except things like needle sweep at startup, can also set stop start to remember setting and not re-enable each time.

I'd hope he is just telling you porkies. It would take some sort of miracle or Hollywood movie studio to make a diesel tractor sound like a v8 petrol.

probably means piping an artificial sound into the cabin...I know BMW do it for some of their models to add a more throatier sound.

Only some M models. Certainly not any diesel variant that's for sure.

Pretty sure vag do it across the range now. In the golfs it changes the notes depending on what mode you are in

on my A6 Sline ....when you change the car 'setting' say from Comfort to Active or Sport or whatever it is it changes the whole feel of the car.
Suspension is lower and tightened. Steering gets 'heavier ' and the exhaust gets more vocal. Not boy racer vocal but 'yeah.this is good vocal'
And when you give the right pedal a bit of a push ...the tyres bite and off off it shoots.

We've an s-line ultra black edition - comes with a decent level of spec as you said. Bose speakers (I've heard complaints but sound great to me), 20" alloys, electric folding mirrors, heated seats, led lights, we've no reversing camera however. Comfortable cruiser, however I find myself dropping into manual mode or using the paddles to drop down a gear (or two) as the responsiveness just isn't as quick as her previous E60. I think there's definitely some noise pumped in, there's a definite growl at times. Favourite part... the wheels!

The Bi turbo model comes with a sound generator in the exhaust to make it sound more throaty. Plenty of vids on youtube of it. Was also available on the MK7 Golf GTD as part of the "sport and sound" package. I've recently bought one so did a bit of research on it, those cars came with red calipers too, interestingly they've discontinued it for the MK7.5 GTD. It was separate to the sound actuator which is built in behind the dash

    A6 & A7 6-Cylinder Engine Sound System
The engine sound system continuously intensifies the normal engine sound, creating an authentic sound effect. The system offers a transformed, especially sporty sound experience, which can be varied using the Audi drive select driving dynamics system (if installed).

    Available for: A3 1.4 TFSI, 1.6 TDI, 2.0 TDI
    A6 4-Cylinder
    A6 & A7 6-Cylinder

Requirements: Audi Drive Select (Fitted to S Line Models)

    A6 & A7 6-Cylinder Engine Sound System
    Price: €1,822.00

I know what a diesel sounds like, and whilst I was test-driving different s-line models, the model we went with had a much different sound to the others... I presume this is what is installed...

Never knew that!! Bit surprised really as you'd only expect it on a sporty M car. Certainly doesn't have it on the 535d which has same engine as 640d.

Have one of these. Auto is a must in my opinion. Super car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,380 ✭✭✭Azatadine

Yeah. Auto is a must alright. The only thing about the s-tronic box is that dead spot at a roundabout or junction where you need to be sharp. It can take a second to respond There is a bit of a learning curve there. I stick it in nto S at busy junctions like that and I let it creep rather than auto hold.

Bought an A4 for the missus out of the UK. Has a lovely Bang & Olufsen system in it. But on the A6, which spec is the one with the sweeping indicators?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 157 ✭✭supue

The sweeping indicators comes with the S-line spec

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

And only on the facelift from about 2015 onwards.

Kufatec active sound booster module could have been fitted also, cost about €1000 or cheaper on EBay

Actually you can have it on non-M models. Sometimes the ASD module is there only disconnected and sometimes it's not there at all. Mine doesn't have it but in the F30 it's located under the left hand storage tray in the boot beside the amp. Quite a lot of removal of carpet etc. to get to it.

My brother has a manual 2014, he likes it but I did find the pedals offset.
