I'm on point 1 of the CO scale and the opportunity of some extra work has come up which i'm thinking of taking a day off to do, because it will be a Friday to Sunday job. A once off, not a regular job.

It will be taxed etc. it's all above board. In my last job, loads of us were doing it, nobody bothered to tell management because it was along the lines of it's my day off....I can do what I want. Is there rules I don't know about within the CS doing other work on your day off?

Civil Servants are meant to inform their Sec Gen of any second jobs they have. Very few do unless there’s a conflict of interest.

I am aware of people who haven’t been allowed take up paid work due to alleged “conflict of interest” but this would have been in a specialist area of CS.

Thanks Bobby.....reckon I'm ok so...doubt waiting tables wouldn't fall into the conflict of interest category biggrin.png

Loads of folk work second jobs such as these and say nothing. Can’t inagine your Dept caring as long as it doesn’t impair your work as a CS. If you need to leave work early to attend or are late in as a result of a shift then they could pull you on it... but it shouldn’t be an issue.
