    Hi Guys
just wondering what the best way to get an extended test drive of an 6 series, i dont mind hiring if i can find one.

been looking at the 640d now for a while and would love to test one for a few days,
I was in frank keane today and the cost of the new 8 series is shocking and there will be no run out 6 series, just a stop in production .

    Thanks guys

Don't quote me on that but I thought I saw a 24 or 48 hrs test drive offer from BMW.

You should look at BMW in the north or UK. Should be cheaper thank Joe's and Frank's prices on imported UK cars..

I got a 3 day loan of an i3 from 2 different Dublin based main dealers. But that was to see if I could live with it day to day being a full plug in electric, I'm not sure if they would offer same on a conventional engined car. But you never know unless you ask. If they think it's a genuine prospect for a sale they might.

Yea I think the main goal would be to import. Spec and price is world's apart.

Anything specific you’re looking to know about them? I had one.

Check the selection in Belfast/Portadown - after that you can start looking for something in mainland UK. I found the https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/ a good website to browse for the desired model. Just put in Belfast as the city and work your way up with the distance. The prices are probably as low as you will get and you can expect around 500 GBP discount from the listed price, maybe a 1000 if you're lucky. If you're talking to someone on the phone also it's worth asking about "managers list" which has models that would not be shown to public and are more of an internal stock list.

Well I am in a e39 530d msport as a daily at the moment. I had a mk4 gti before this. The size of the e39 for parking is tough without sensors. So that's a factor.

The 640d is the one I will go for. But it's the ride and the comfort I am interested in. I don't mind a harsh ish ride but not a crash bang over small bumps.

The extras also are confusing. What was standaed ? As i would Love a sunroof decent stereo and adaptive damping.

I got the brochures from Frank Keane so I will see what was offered and try and match spec.

I wonder how much the 8 series will plummet on used car market do I wait for one of them ?

Vrt for 141 msport is 10k... will that drop in New year ?

Check your model but put 1yr older in the vrt calculator it should give you some indication what to expect.

Adaptive not standard, nearly everything else is. HUD and soft close doors were extras, sunroof too but having said that I have never seen one without them. I remember looking at the options list on the configurator to see what was added to my car that wasn’t standard, things like the above were extras, Harmon Kardon was extra (mine didn’t have it but the standard speakers were really good I found).

Mine had the 20s so over a pothole that caught you by surprise it could be hard but all in all it wasn’t overly harsh no. The car has a wonderful premium feel to it so it just glides along effortlessly, the torque is immense.

Are you thinking of buying a new one or used?!

They stopped making them late last year so you cannot get them brand new anymore. The successor to the 5 Series GT wears the 6 Series badge now. I had a drive in a 640d GC last week and it didn't have a sunroof, the second turbo gives it superior low range torque over my 530d for sure. Very big car though which makes it a right pain to park especially in multi storey car parks.

Will be used car. The 8 series is taking over from it. They still list 182 6 series in the web .

Did you you like it? I think I would prefer the coupe.

It was certainly a very nice place to be in and felt quick but it's not a car I'd choose as my next car personally as I'm coming from a similar era F Series 530d so would like to move up to the newer G Series models next time.

Would a 5 series have the same cockpit ?

The design is different, more sporty and the trim feels a bit more upmarket but most of the running gear and switchgear in the 6 Series are shared with that in the 5 Series. The 6 Series was basically a coupe version of the 5 Series.

You will be hard pressed finding a 6 cylinder CLS in Ireland. If your going A7 make sure it's one of the higher powered quattro versions.

Petrol or diesel? I refuse to have a car at this class with a struggling engine whimpering around.
I think the budget will change the diesel tax bands in some way have to factor that in also.

    Both.

Tyres, servicing and insurance will all be more severe than road tax on these cars. Confused also about a potential 8 series buyer worrying about road tax costs!

i know i know but if the goverment decide that diesel is the devil and tripple the tax , it wont make for happy motorists.

no chance of buying an 8 series, i potentially with have 35k, not the 100 for the 8 series

I cannot see the government doing anything dramatic in the short to mid term as it would piss off too many voters, with a general election due in the next 2 years or so it would just be political suicide for any party.
