Just curious would it bother most people or not? Not really sure where I stand on it. I don't think it would really bother me but I'd prefer say a lurker in work not knowing...it'd be like they were spying on ya!

With my old username 2 people knew who I was, I have challenged my sister to find me now as I don't think she would understand the significance of my name now She hasn't been on here in ages though. I like the anonymity even though I don't say anything here that I wouldn't say in real life so it wouldn't bother me much if someone recognised me.

I'd be the same in that I'd be myself and fellow posters on threads I'd post on regularly would get the gist of what I'm like but I wouldn't totally trust the anonymity completely and be totally revealing about myself.

No I wouldn't really mind anyone I know knowing me on here but i wouldn't link my facebook page or real name or anything because I wouldn't want anyone I don't know to know my name and stuff like that!

Boards is a bit like the equivalent of walking into a park full of people with paper bags over their head announcing random opinions and things about themselves

No, my brother & sister already know my username. I like to think I am the same person on boards, as I am in real life. I may even have been overheard talking about my account one time. But at the end of if people do find out who I am & go looking to see what I post & then talk about me/it off boards, then in the long run I think it says more about them really.

I managed to figure out two of my friends' usernames from some of their comments on here, and it really freaked them out. One of them was stupid enough to put some of his exam grades up, but that's another story...

If you asked me my view on something or for advice I'd nearly always tell you the same thing as I would on here.
Some people like me and others don't and I'm not one really to be bothered.

I prefer to control what people on Boards see of me. Its not a privacy thing, but people can pre judge you based on so many things .... So I want what I post to stand or fall on its merits, and not be dismissed because of who I am.

Having said that, I would not mind having a "secret" wave so that people in RL know I am a Boardsie (just not which Boardsie). How about a raised hand wave, like the American Indians "how" from cowboy pics? Looks like a regular quick wave so you dont stand out too much and can be done from the car, bike or walking. And we all know we just met another board member...

No. I like my privacy, I suspect someone who knows me could quite easily figure out it's me but I prefer to stay anonymous if possible. Last time I posted a picture of myself on internet is about 20 years ago. There are probably newer photos but none I posted. I'm not afraid to voice my opinions, they are not different but I like my privacy, I also keep work separate from personal life.

I know one person from here who i met in person and they know me but we don't talk to eachother anymore other than that i don't really spend much time here or even post much. I wouldn't tell people who i am here but if they found out it wouldn't really bothered me as i haven't really posted anything of interest.

Well it depends on who figures out who I am. With friends I wouldn't mind as I am very much the same person in real life as I am on boards. However I sometimes have a bit of a rant about family members so I wouldn't be too keen on them knowing who I am.

I think I'd mostly be uncomfortable about ex-colleagues realising who I am or people I knew in my teenage years who I wouldn't be friendly with now.

My sister is on boards but I don't think she knows my username and I've only seen her post once, we don't seem to frequent the same fora.

I have an ex-boyfriend that I know is on boards and he randomly messages me every once in a while to tease me about something I posted but that just makes me laugh, the big stalker

I am friends with a few posters here on FB, so know real names & they know mine. Know the odd name of others too.

I am not overly embarrassed about anything I have posted here, no real extreme views.


If you spent the time going through anyone with a sizeable number of posts, like me, you could build a profile handy enough. But why anyone would want to trawl through 90% of drivel.


I did find out hte username of an ex-colleague a few years ago who posted on something in one of the regional forums. Was obvious it was them, can't remember what it was now. Just remember it was a very low post count at the time.

A few people have connected my posts and the attitudes I've spoken about in RL situations. Doesn't bother me in the slightest. A verbal debate is just as much fun as one on boards.

It is amusing that my parents know my boards handle and have bothered to read a variety of my posts.
