Car not getting petrol issue?

I know somebody who currently has an issue with their car.
The car drives perfect for a short drive and then stops dead. If you turn the ignition on it sounds like their isn't petrol going to engine/etc. After a while the car starts again but could stop at any time.
They've had fuel filters/etc cleaned and a petrol pump changed but this made no difference.
    Anybody any ideas?

Cam (top of engine) or Crank (bottom of engine) Sensor gone/going bad, both usually reasonably priced and easy enough to change.

Had a car that did the same thing - always started perfectly from cold, after a quick short two/three minute drive (barely enough for car to warm up) engine wouldn't start after even a very short stop ie nip into shop for 2min for food/petrol/newspaper etc, seemed like an immobliser fault but a fresh sensor sorted it 100% :0)

    Thanks.
That sounds right. It only happens when the car is cold.

That sounds a lot more like a faulty MAF sensor to me, tbh.

    Thanks!
Any idea would this be expensive?
Mechanic said it was certainly the petrol pump.

Pretty important details regardless. Googling the issue throws up numerous possible causes. The immobiliser being one that is mentioned a lot... worth investigating that one (something about the ignition barrel having a fault causing the immobiliser to do crazy things even after starting)

Thanks, I know the immobiliser was replaced a few years ago in the car but it might be acting up again!
