    Hi

I am currently on Illness benefit.
I always send my cert in every Wednesday morning so the money is usually transferred to my account on the Friday or Monday at the latest.

Nothing yet and i cannot get through to their offices, tried all day yesterday and have been on hold now for over 1 hour this morning.

I have appointment with doctor tomorrow for review but obviously i can't go because i need to pay €60 which i don't have as i am still waiting for medical card to be approved.

Has anyone else ever had issues trying to call them ?

They’re experiencing delays, see announcement on welfare.ie: https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Illness-Benefit-Customer-Update.aspx

Just go to your GP & explain the situation, I’d be very surprised if he wouldn’t issue Cert with the understanding that you’ll settle bill when you get paid.

On a side note, GPs get paid by DSP for filling in the social welfare certs & should not charge for doing so. Just go to your doctors receptionist & she’ll do it for you. Of course if a consultation is required your GP will charge.

Either way, just explain that there’s a delay in your illness benefit payment & arrange to pay (if relevant) as soon as your payment issues.

I drop in my cert on a Monday and always get payment on Wednesday or Thursday at the latest and nothing this week! I really need to get back to school finished so don’t know what to do. I can’t get through to them either.

This is the state benefit forum, they'll have better info there.

If your going to be on for a while you can be changed to a monthly cert. I was on it for 18montjs and after 4 was transferred to monthly, but it was clear is was going to be on it for a while.
It’s very convenient and saves serious money.

Also, after initial certs I was just paying €10
