We have a lovely 3 year old terrior full of energy and great fun family loves her ..
All of a sudden thursday morning she could barely walk ..she was wrecked..we brought her to the vets they thought it was a blockage from something she ate but nothing showed up on x rays ..
they gave us antibiotics and said her liver levels look very high ..
She is now lying down all the day and can barely move i am really beginning to wonder has she been poisoned it has happened so quick ..
She is getting worse each day

Bring her to another vet at least then if anything happens you know you did what you could.
What is the follow up plan of your current vet?
Is she having bowel movements, eating and drinking as normal?
Poisonings is possible but most are normaly easy to identify. Anybody have rat poison down or would she have been in contact with or walked on slug pellets? Is/was there any twitching in her muscles, drooling/forming at her mouth or rapid breathing?

It sounds like she needs to be kept in on a drip, repeat bloods etc. Is she drinking , eating?

    Such a worry :(

Vet should keep them in on a drip if not eating or drinking. Could the dog have accessed anything harmful and ingested it? Have a look around where the dog normally goes see if you can find anything

My dog had Weil’s disease two summers ago. And sounds kind of similar to her initial symptoms.

Tell tale sign is a yellow tinge to their stomach which came on day two (I think!). If so, please go straight to the vet as it can be fatal. My dog was put on antibiotics and a drip, and thankfully survived!

I don’t want to be an alarmist but the sooner you can get to a vet the better, it sounds like an emergency, to be honest. Your dog seems to be critically ill.

yes i know ..the vet is here at 4 so meeting him them ...sounds like it could be weilings disease looking at.the symptoms will bring it up with the vet

Op I think if phone the vet and ask them to get to you asap. Two hours (without delays) could be the difference in a positive outcome.

Do you get your dog vaccinated? As the vaccine should cover leptospirosis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 519 ✭✭✭freddie1970

fully vaccinated ....vet is travelling to clinic amd wont be there till 4 ..so have to wait

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,055 ✭✭✭Fakediamond

Right...I was having a look on google myself and although the vaccine doesn’t cover everything, it’s supposed to provide some protection.

I really hope you can get some answers today, it’s awfully upsetting to see our pets so sick.
