    Hi guys,

So im trying to purchase this oven for my parents but its not available for store pickup

    http://www.argos.co.uk/product/4483575

Now ive got onto argos.co.uk live chat and they said it has to be home delivery, i dont understand why if i pay in advance and select a store that they cant order it in for me. The mind boggles.

Anyway, whats the best/cheapest way for me to have this delivered. I dont mind going to drive up north to get it, but because its so big 70x60x50cm parcel motel is charging me 80 bucks for home delivery.

Is there any other service out there that i can just have it delivered to a uk address across the border and collect myself?

    Thank you
    Brendan

    Lol, it's 1999e in Currys :D

It's 140e more to buy in Argos Ireland. I think that's your only option unless you know someone who lives in the UK, but then you've got risk of damage in the transporting it from there.

Parcel motel won't work, Argos won't deliver appliances to couriers.

Thanks lads, i thought there might be a way around it.. I guess i will have to try find someone with a house in uk to deliver it to must ask my friends if they know anyone.

Im in Australia so cant make arrangements as easy as I could at home and was hoping someone might have a way around it as I could get a friend to collect if delivered in a uk depot.

Parcel motel will accept it but its costing the guts of 80euro. I was only checking if someone found a way around this before. I will leave this as a last resort parcel motel.

How about booking a cheap b&b for a night and having it delivered there?

All to save 140e and all the hassle of transporting the thing from there. I'd just pay the extra..

    £580 = approx €660 if you pay be visa/mastercard.

Cost of transporting such and item, the hassle and issues with warranty as you're in a different country (remember brexit is coming) really is not worth it.

Its €80 more in local argos with direct delivery to your door. Zero hassle, local warranty service.

£580 showing up as €645 on my revolut, plus with argos IRE delivery cost €20 on top. With argos UK delivery only £6.95

So im saving over €100 using the UK site.

I understand where your coming from, but im beside the border anyway should anything happen to it. My nearest irish argos, and uk argos wouldnt be a whole pile travel difference. Its worth the saving of €110.

Why does it say suitable for LPG if it's electric?

I dont believe it lads im having so much trouble ordering this.

I placed the order online they took the £580 from my account then i got a message saying unable to place your ordee. I rang the next day and they said they were having issues online and to place the order again and i would be refunded in up to 5 business days. They said there issues were fixes.

So i placed order again online and same happened again.

So then i rang and placed order over the phone and it went through and i got my order number. All good and also recieved my 2 refunds on revolut.

So yesterday i tracked my order online and all was in place. Today i tracked it again and it says unable to find order please call number.

I ring and they said its cancelled. I said why thinking no stock but he said theres still stock. Pit on hold as i wanted find out exactly why and he says because of fraudulant activity. I said what to heck are you on about fraudulent activity what is fraud. I ordered a product from you with my details. Why didnt you ring to confirm before cancelling. Oh we do this to protect you. I say how is it protecting me? I said i can see if a bank does this but why or what rwason do you have? He couldnt give me any more info. I said can i order it again and he says i cant guarantee it wont be cancelled again.

Has anyone ever heard of this? What sort of BS is it. Only thing ive done is get it delivered to a friends uk address. I used my revolut card which has a irish address i input as billing address. But surely this shouldnt be a issue? Bahhhh im so bloody mad this is a present for my parents and i wantes it delivered early next week now I dunno how to go about getting it for them!

The 80euro saving was definitely not worth it! Time and stress!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 491 ✭✭brendan86

Its more 110euro saving, and it was worth it if this went smootly which no reason why it shouldnt have. Yes it has stressed me out now i am fuming.

The first line of credit card security for most companies, (particularly first orders) is to deliver only to the card holders address.
this is why it probably flagged as fraudulent activity.

i recently had an order cancelled by argos.co.uk ebay store because they wouldn't ship to parcel motel even thoughy my parcel motel address is registered with my credit card company

Cardholder address in a different country.

Red flags on payment systems which are automatic.

Now imagine the hassle if you need a warranty repair?

And its not a particularly good oven either.

It's actually not a bad little oven, it's no Rangemaster for sure, but for the average user it's decent. Bosch are a very decent brand as far as appliances go.

I have it sorted now, was onto argo fraud department they werent happy with billing address to delivery address.

Anyway have it sorted now, sent dad the funds to go pay the cash for it in Newry, they guaranteed me if paid in store it wouldnt get cancelled. Yes lot of hassle, I was about to order argos ire but everything should be easy flowing now.

As for poster above I think it is a very good oven for the money, in most places this is £800 average, i rang a electrical store where parents use to buy appliances just over the border and they quoted £850 for same model. Its obviously not the best but it is a very good one, I did my research and for £580 i think its worth it. Anyway hopfully all is smooth sailing now cheers guys even though im not sure if I got any help starting this thread 🀣 Maybe ive thought a lot of people trying to save a few $$$ sometimes isnt worth the hassle 😂

Lets just hope I dont need the warranty or this will be a lesson to me also lol
