Incredibly Sexist Newspaper Article

I read something today in a newspaper that went like this:

"Men continue to outperform women in promotion competitions"

Fair enough you might think but it goes on to say this:

"The phenomenon of men producing better promotion outcomes than women is generally attributed to men being more organised in their approach to work and aiming higher."

Can you believe that a newspaper published something as sexist as that? I will try and dig out an online copy.

In the meantime, do you think this is acceptable? What should be done about the newspaper? How can we change such attitudes in society?

Girls did better than boys in the Leaving Cert.
Insert a good sexist reason as to why after the above statement, just to even things up.

Yes I can. Newspapers will publish any old shìte as long as they think it will generate revenue.

Get over it. Stop looking to be offended. If you look for reasons to be offended youll find them everywhere you look.

Relax. It's a two bit newspaper article. And maybe, just maybe, the reason was true.

It's easy to get offended in life and it's wasted energy.

Thread is about the Leaving Cert.

There was no article in the media about men outperforming women in the workplace - such an article would never appear - that is the point of the thread.

Y'know B, of all the debates on here, often coming to near blows on some subjects, I reckon precious few on any side of any debate would disagree with your post.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

That aint sexist at all. Sexism is prejudice and discrimination, not the statement of facts.

Can you disprove their claim and show that the error is a result of prejudice against women ?

People are totally missing the point. The content itself isn't what's offensive, it's the utter double standard. Nobody likes being told that they're worth less than someone else, and unless human psychology changes fairly drastically over the next few centuries of evolution, no one ever will. That's the problem. Being told that one group gets freedom or protection from attack while you are "fair game" is, essentially, being told that you don't "matter" as much in the scheme of things. That is always going to piss people off, and rightly so.

But the article in a way shows that the male school population is underperforming. Crap newspaper or not I'd agree that women are better at this.
I'm a male and did my leaving cert in 05 and even then the women were better with the results.

That comes from men leading more rounded lives, music and sport in particular taking a lot of their time compared to studies. Girls really only have Facebook and hair care products, which leaves them a lot more time to focus on exam results. Overall, the guys have it better I would say.

It also makes no sense considering the very top results were guys as well

Deleted my post cause i just thought its pointless to the thread.
At the end of the day it's offense without there actually being anything offensive.

You might not find having your demographic treated as less important or less deserving than others "offensive". Others do, and there's nothing remotely unreasonable about that.
