If going for the 508 get the 2.0hdi, much more suited to a car this size and won't make much differences in running costs. Had a rental one last year on the continent, pleasantly surprised, really comfy and seemed well put together. If limited to these three models, it'd be the one I'd get (provided there are no known reliability issues).

Best question, which do you prefer to drive?

    Personal choice....

I have not driven the 508

I have had 2 Passat, 2 x Golf, 2 Mondeo's, SMAX and Galaxy. Galaxy and Golf are current cars

I would go for the Passat all day long. Or if going for a 20k car look at Audi A4/A6.

The step up to A6 is great.

Passat was comfy, nice place to be. Couldn’t see myself getting bored of it interior wise more quickly while I think that could happen with the Mondeo. Passat wasn’t the 2 litre and I didn’t miss power on a test drive. 508 again was a nice place to be, was in the 1.6l - didn’t notice a power deficit but wasn’t overtaking mad etc.

I don't mind the Ford interior....I just think it is more of a work horse car

The VW's just seem a nice place to be.

My mate is the exact opposite. He would drive a Ford all day long, no matter what it is. Bought a Sharan instead of a Galaxy and hates it....it really comes down to personal taste

Both the VW and Ford will be good engine cars. My brother has a 2011 5008 and never had a days issues with it, apart from the old repair due to high mileage but nothing major.

That’s actually got the 1.6 engine which is odd. The 1.5 is supposed to be more reliable. That said we have a 1.5 TDCI with 180k which needed new injectors.

Have friends with various recent Ford's thing's are never out of the dealers including a kuga and Mondeo the parts prices are pricey enough as well which is a shame cos they look good and drive great

Have a 2012 508 2.0HDi myself, and recently drove a friend's 2015 Mondeo Titanium. Can't say I was overly impressed by the Mondeo, finish wise, compared to the 508.

Power wise, the 2.0HDi feels adequate, and I really wouldn't like to be stuck in the 1.6HDi version. Hold out for 2.0HDi, Allure spec or better if going this route.

Know it’s not the be all and end all but got quoted €200 more for insurance on a 2l 508 that gave me pause for thought! Will shop round more obviously!

The peugeot 508 is the nicest car of them three and they are very comfortable to travel in too, very smooth over bumps and good going around corners as well. Well built too.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
