Possibly un-vaccinated stray cat

We're currently feeding a stray cat that comes up to our back door around the same time as dinner time for our own cat. He looks a bit like a hobo, hard to say if he's just a battered tom that someone owns though. He has a fair few battle scars on him.

He seems to get on with our cat, i'm just afraid that if he is stray/feral he might carry diseases that could affect our cat.

Should i try and catch him and bring him up to the DSPCA to see if he is chipped? At the same time i don't want to be kidnapping someone elses moggy. :D

He's not tame and looks in fairly poor condition.

You could put a collar on with a note taped to it - do you own this cat etc..

There was on recently on the FB page for my area - basically the cat was making himself at home in everyone's house/garden and had a collar.. but not tags so everyone assumed he was a stray!

BTW any vets will scan for a chip

I might try and catch him then, get a vet to check him. I just don't want our lad catching something off him.

He should be fine, as he is up to date with his shots though???

Our own cat came back from his rounds before wearing a very snazzy pink collar. I think he has a secret life.

Well the one local to us was about to be adopted until the owner posted saying he was hers. There's been other posts where they've had to go and collect him from other peoples houses and gardens too :D

Our lad was definitely getting two dinners for a while. He was packing on the pounds.

I can see him out the back window of our place tarting it up with the neighbours. The scamp.

If the cat isnt tame and is in poor condition then its probably a given that he isnt owned by anyone.

If you can get him to a vet (any vet) to check for a chip you might consider funding a health check for him too and get him neutered if he isnt already - it will substantially improve his quality of life not to be as territorial and fighting with other males.

Id be more concerned with him becoming territorial and fighting your cat resulting in nasty bites/abscesses/injuries etc

Please. borrow a humane trap from a rescue or a vet... Far far less traumatic and stress free than any other way

and cover exposed parts of the car with plastic as the tom stink will be strong

I have a cage for our own moggy for bringing him to the vet. I'll try and coax him into that with food.
