Again, what has that go to do with rugby or the try he scored?

Absolutely nothing. And I don't think anyone said it did. He is a fantastic rugby player. He is a horrible person.

Beating NZ in NZ. Hardest thing to do in world rugby?

Quite possibly. Can you think of a tougher task?

Beating Peter O'Mahony in an anthem singing contest.

Getting Peter O'Mahoney to admit he was lacking pashun?

This is just poor from the Wobblies. Nothing positive from this at all.

What a hit on Falou at the end. Should have passed though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,403 ✭✭✭✭prawnsambo

Almost biblical the way that ended. :D

What a brain fart from Folau. Must have seen some homosexuals in the crowd.

    What a selfish play

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 26,403 Mod ✭✭✭✭Peregrine

Did he really just run into three defenders as opposed to passing?

Folou wow. What the hell was he thinking

It was a fantastic hit in fairness. Never should have been given the opportunity to make it.

I remain convinced that the overall quality of rugby has dropped slightly in the past 2-3 years in the southern hemisphere.

That's two massive test matches in just over 12 months when Barrett's goalkicking has cost NZ the win. Can they afford to risk a third next year? Such a quality rugby player but I think he has to come away from 10 and the goalkicking .

The quality of rugby has dropped in the North as well with the exception of Ireland.

It's really hard to know where we actually are until November.

Why is he a prick ; because he has opinions and beliefs that differ to yours?

Yep. That's exactly why he is being labelled as a prick.

And that they should burn in hell unless they repent for their sins.

    Which is homophobic.

    Which makes him a prick.

Which is what the poster said.

    Wrong.

He believes that they WILL burn in hell, not that they SHOULD. The difference between those two propositions is night and day.

Just as he believes all other "sinners", including himself, will do the same if they don't repent. But naturally that part never gets mentioned. Its only the "homophobia" aspect that certain people get their panties in a knot over.

If you are going to throw personal abuse at a player (which I thought was not allowed on this forum) simply because they have a different set of beliefs to you, at least take the time to understand their position however much you may disagree with it.

So do you think he disagrees with the should bit? I’d find that surprising tbh. You’re playing off technicalities that don’t wash I’m afraid. But this is a rugby thread so I’ll leave it at that.

I think it's possibly fallen a small fraction but I wouldn't put it past these sides to get back their extremely quickly.

Interesting to see what they do with Beauden "Rubbish Player" Barrett. I hope they don't work it out before 2019...

He's a fantastic 10 though. They should just get someone else to take over kicking from the tee

The message on Folau seems to be that it's unacceptable to judge someone on their sexuality but it's fair to call someone "a prick" and "a horrible person" based on their religious belief.

Folau isn't a bad guy as far as I can tell. His mistake was being born too late. Twenty or thirty years ago the lynchmob of righteous anger would have been on his side. Now he's the target, but the basic principle is the same; he's different so he must be evil.

    Religious beliefs = fine
Religious beliefs limiting the rights of others = not fine

I don't know if Folau would deny marriage and adoption rights to homosexuals, but in my experience it's very rare for people with his expressed views not to carry them into their views of how society should operate.

Also, if religious beliefs are prickish and horrible then then those promoting those views are going to earn those labels quick enough.

Religious beliefs aren't a shield to criticism.

Yeah, I think so. They'd want to have someone very good to be moving him from 10

I don't know if Folau would deny marriage and adoption rights to homosexuals

The whole thing originated from his stance during the Aussie marriage equality referendum.

He's perfectly entitled to believe whatever he wants obviously. But when he uses his platform to start evangelising those beliefs and telling gay people that they are living in sin and that you believe from the 'bottom of your heart' that they will all burn in hell, then that changes everything. It's not his religious beliefs that are the problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,163 ✭✭✭Yeah_Right

I have no issue with Folau's or anyone's religious beliefs. Until they try to push them on other people. He thinks gay people will burn in hell, he thinks being gay is immoral and that gay people shouldn't ge allowed to marry. Those beliefs make him a prick. It's the same as if he held those beliefs about a race of people.

And after that brain fart at the end, I take back what I said about him being a fantastic player :D

Back to the rugby, great weekend of it. Those results are good for the competition. Very happy for Argentina, not unhappy for SA. Australian rugby is in trouble. Cheika has to be under pressure but they have no one else.

That's really not that strange an opinion to hold, I'd imagine quite a large proportion of people would be opposed to it.

Possibly the most talented player in the world but I don't think he's best utilised at 10. If RM gets a run in the jersey I'd love to see Barrett move out a spot and see if they could gel.

It's a homophobic opinion. It doesn't matter if a large proportion of people oppose it. Saying gay people can't and/or shouldn't raise children is homophobic.

Yes, and a large proportion of people opposed interracial marriage. Intolerance is far from uncommon unfortunately, doesn't mean it should be accepted.

Don't know if he's ever played 12. If they did decide to go with Mounga or MacKensie at 10 but keep BB on the field, they'd move him to FB. Personally I think he's still the best 10 but his goal kicking is not reliable enough.

Does every discussion on every topic have to involve people grandstanding on some issue these days?

We get it, you are so virtuous. Well done.
