The vrt v5 document?

Apologies if this has been asked before - Just after VRTing a car, and the lady at the counter kept the V5 document, and says they will send it to DVLA or somewhere like that. My understanding was that the permanent export part of the V5 document was what DVLA was interested in, and that was sent to DVLA the day we bought the car at the dealer in UK.

I thought I would get to hold on to the V5 document, just for historic reference on when the car was originally registered, and all the other technical details that's on it. I mean how am I to prove to potential buyer that this was originally registered in UK at x date, VIN etc now? Is the process right here, or did that VRT person make a mistake?

They take the V5C and send it back to Swansea DVLA to show the car was exported.
It will say on your logbook when its issued by first tax application when it was first registered and that it was a UK car.

That's the procedure, you never get to keep the V5, that's why I scan mine to PDF and save with the cars file. Just for reference like you mentioned, but you gain nothing from it as your Irish paperwork will hint at dates of time of import as the first tax date etc

The old UK registration number will appear on the new Revenue cert from Shannon.Easy for a future buyer to use the old reg number to do a search for history.
