    Hi guys,

Looking at buying an 10 year old focus. Owner never changed the timing belt. It has 60,000 miles on the clock.

I see they need to be changed every 100k miles or 10 years but even if the milage is 40k under?

How much would something like that cost replace?

The belt is affected by both wear and aging, so yes, it needs to be changed. Also the water pump if it's driven by the timing belt needs to be changed as well. As for the cost, I don't know, but a typical range would be 3-500E for parts and labor.

The belt should be changed yes but personally I have never seen one snap on a focus so it would in my opinion be fairly safe to continue

OP, you don't mention which engine it has.

I paid €350 to get belt and water pump done on my diesel Ford Focus a few weeks ago.

    Its a 1.6 petrol

I had a 05 focus 1.6 petrol automatic with similar mileage and it was 9 years old(I guess it is 8 years or 100k miles on those).

So I had the same dilemma and changed it in Ford dealer with waterpump for 570 Euro.

They have a cheaper motorcraft service menu for older cars. see link below.
