    Hi,

My Polo didnt pass NCT on sunday (1.2 Petrol) due to high CO. The latest readings are as follows:

    Low Idle: CO = 0.25% (limit 0.30%) HC = 8ppm.
    High Idle: CO = 1.04% (limit 0.20%), HC = 10ppm
    Lambda: 0.97 pass

    Any suggestion ?
This is very High emission fail I believe.
What can i do not to get ripped off from the Mechanic ?

    Thank you

From those readings looks like a catalytic converter problem.

Thank you George . Would it be expensive to change ?

Yes they are pretty expensive for your particular model unfortunately. It’s part of the exhaust manifold.

Before spending any money on catalytic converters. Clean the throttle body. I've seen numerous polos with all sorts of gunk in there causing it to ever so slightly stay opened.

That cannot cause a high co reading......

    +1 on the cat.

If the HC 's were high it would have been a lot worse $$$$

The slightly rich lamdba won't help with the CO values, either (although those values are so far over the limit that fixing that on its own won't fix the problem as the others have pointed out).
