    Hi folks.

Can someone give me an estimate of how much it costs from scratch to learn, pass the test and get a driving licence?

    Thanks in advance

It varies, depending on who you do lessons with and how many you do.

This is variable, but lets go with what we know for certain.

    Theory test for cat B: 45eur (http://www.rsa.ie/RSA/Learner-Drivers/Your-learner-permit/The-theory-test/)
    Learner Permit Application: 35eur
Driving lessons: 299eur (Looking online it is possible to get 12 EDT lessons for 299eur in Dublin, how good or bad this random company is I do not know)
    Driving Test: 85eur ()
    Full driving license application: 55eur

So now we're at 519eur total.

This is really a best case scenario. One where you only do 12 EDT lessons, and no other practising in between. For most this will not bring you to a test standard. But trying to quantify the cost to practise brings up more variables. Will you have your own car? Will you drive someone elses? The cost of insurance will be a very large cost in either scenario.

Mine cost 35 Euro an hour so a good bit more than 299 -
Also bear in mind the extra diesel costs (from all the practice driving in between) and added named insurance if you are using your sponsor's car to practice in.

I did account for insurance and car costs in my post. In so much as that cost is very much in the air, and will vary greatly depending on your circumstances.

As for lesson costs, most instructors will offer deals for block booking lessons. Which has it's own risk I admit. But I was going for the best case scenario.

    For me:

    Theory test 45
    Learner Permit Application: 35
    Driving lessons: 22 hours @ 35 euro per hour = 770
Driving Test: 85 euro X3 (Passed on 2nd attempt but had to cancel once and couldn't give 10 days notice)
    Full driving license application: 55euro
Car: 4500 euro (2011 Nissan Micra)
    1st Year Tax: 200
    1st year Insurance: 1800
NCT for first year: 50 (approx)

    Total is 7510

I know - sorry I was just giving my tuppence too - no offence meant.
