DPF - engine light on/off/on/off

    09 Ford Focus 170k milage.

About a month ago I had a service done and within a week the engine light came on. I needed the EPG valve replaced. Got that done and within 24 hours light was on again but this time for the DPF. Long story short, got the DPF Regen done twice but the light came on again. Mechanic said I need to get DPF removed. However after being parked up for a few days the light went out on it's own and drove pretty normal, until the light came on again. It has since repeated this cycle twice and the light is currently off and car is driving fine.

I was just looking for a second opinion before I go and get the DPF removed as I am sure the light is going to come back on soon. Any chance the car will just sort itself out?

Having the DPF cleaned is a better option than removal IMO.

Would a DPF cleaner fluid help?

It might help in the short term but the best actual solution to your problem is removing the DPF assembly, having it professionally cleaned (in effect reconditioned) and then refitting.

    Ok, thanks for that.

Some of the DPF cleaning companies have an exchange programme where you swap your old unit for a reconditioned one, its a lot cheaper than buying a new one. For common units like Opel 2.0 CDTI Honda 2.2 the units were 280 inc VAT
