New job, new car EV best for tax, so which?

I've been following this forum for a long time and read most of the posts. I've signed contracts for a new job and it comes with a car lease allowance. Within that allowance there's a number of electric cars that wouldn't use the full amount so I'd get any balance released to salary.

For personal reason I want either a pure electric or a hybrid. Current selections are Hyundai Kona or a BMW i3s Rex. Telsa is too expensive on the lease deal so not a choice for the moment. Any gotcha's I need to be aware of with either of these two choices?

For bik benefit it has to be ev only so REx or hybrid doesn't qualify.

Different tax jurisdiction. Higher tax for the Rex naturally but it’s not a deal breaker at all.

Jaguar ipace is also on the list but too expensive.

It’ll be the only car, I’m solo. Expecting occasional passengers but there won’t be a need for kids seats or anything like that.

    +1

Unless you go beyond the EV range of the i3 all the time and have to pay for petrol yourself maybe.

That might be questionable for the REX for which I understand the engine creates electricity for the battery and does not drive the wheels.

"‘electric vehicle’ means a vehicle that derives its motive power exclusively from an electric motor;”,

In Ireland the i3 REx is classified as a PHEV. If it ain't zero emissions, it ain't an EV ;)

Based on answers above this is Netherlands

    Irish laws mean nothing

Based on the requirements the BMW if the same money is better option on paper

Test drive both and see which you prefer is always recommended...my lease company will arrange a weekend test drive before the lease....might be worth asking.....that was available on any car...petrol/diesel etc as you had to sign up for 4 years

    No choice of eGolf?

    Could be a nice alternative.....

    You might consider the following

    1) Where will you be living?
    2) Will you have a parking space at your home that you can charge your car at or will you be using a shared parking space with a footpath in the way of your car? Home charging will be important as depending on your location it may or may not be convenient to use the network as it stands and it's almost certainly all more expensive than you will pay on your home bill. Also assuming you are in North/South Holland then free parking isn't especially common so it may not be practical/possible to leave the car at a street charger for many hours (and lots of them seem to be 5kW for some reason).
    3) How far from work are you?
    4) What other regular journeys are you going to make?

    Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I'm planning to live 30 minutes from the work location. There will be parking where I live and in the office. Charging facilities in the office are plentiful.

    Electric options are;
    BMW i3,
    BMW i3s,
    Hyundai Iconic,
    Hyundai Kona,
    Jaguar iPace
    Kia Soul
    Nissan Evalia
    Nissan Leaf (new model)
    Opel Ampera
    Peugot iOn
    Peugot Partner Tepee
    Renault Kangoo
    Renault Twizy
    Renault Zoe
    Tesla Model S
    Tesla Model X
    Volkswagen e-Golf
    Volkswagen e-Up

Tesla and Jaguar will burst the lease limit, least expensive Tesla would see me have to top up the lease by 400 a month.

In how much of a hurry are you? If you can wait until next year, you could have a Tesla Model 3 (cheaper than BMW i3S for sure, so should be an option for you)

Kona is already on a 11 month waiting list in the Netherlands after this years allocation was sold out almost instantly. There is not much benefit having the long range Kona in the Netherlands with the good charging network. Very different here in Ireland at the moment

If you can't wait for either, I'd go i3S. I doubt you'll regret it :D

The company will give me a loan car while I wait for my order but I have to order on arrival. Looks like the BMW i3s is the right option. I’ll play with the configurator to check options.

    Thanks
